All e-mails must have the subject “SyS 1 (2018-1) - (Message Title)”. Otherwise, they will
not be neither read nor replied.

The subject Signals and Systems I is divided into two sessions: lectures and tutorials.
This syllabus refers to the structure of the tutorials.

Group (SIA) Lecture Tutorial

* G5 session of the holiday 01.05 and G7 sessions of the holidays (19.03, 14.05) will not be
recovered. Students must assist to any of the other tutorials. It is also possible to visit Ing.
Laura Rosero’s tutorials: (MC) 11 am - 1 pm @ 454-306 and (J) 7 am - 9 am @ 453-317.
Lecture material can be found in the course website. Corresponding topics will be covered in
the upcoming tutorial.
Tutorial description and policies

Tutorial session will begin at the latest 15 minutes after the scheduled time (considering
displacements inside the campus buildings). Late entrance is not allowed

In a tutorial session, the essential theory will be actively reviewed by students and the teaching
assistant. Afterwards, exercises will be solved in an analytic way. The use of software tools
will also be demostrated. Retrieval practice is encouraged through quizzes.
Teamwork
Even though each student must solve all tutorial exercises on his own, teamwork will play a
crucial role throughout the course.

Students will conform groups of (maximum) three members which will develop the final
project and all its deliverables. No groups of 4 students will be allowed.

Moodle assignments

The solutions of the (n − 1)th-week must be uploaded by each student to the Moodle
platform as a .pdf file (see Grading section). The corresponding deadline will appear on
the platform.
Scanned solutions for the analytical exercises are accepted as long as they are organized
and readable.
The code for the computer problems must be submitted as a .pdf file in the requested
format and as an attached page to the problem solutions. If simulation graphs are to be
included, they must be introduced into the .pdf files of the solutions. No late submissions
will be received

Use this guide to format your code in a proper way for your submission. Print screens are
not accepted.

grading

• 3 mid-term exams (each 28%)

• Project (16%)
– Two advances (each 4%)
– Final presentation (8%)

Bonuses account for 1.0 unit on the final grade of the course. They are given in the
following way: 0.5, 0.4 and 0.3 for the first, second and third mid-term exams. Quizzes
might be accounted for additional bonuses.

schedule

The topics covered at the nth-week lecture will be reviewed at the (n + 1)th-week tutorial.
Exams solutions will also be presented in the tutorial sessions. During these sessions, each
group will have maximum five (5) minutes to present the corresponding deliverables of the
project.
