Trump Policies on Women’s Health

Signed an order that will cut off access to contraception to vast numbers of women
 will lead to increase in abortions/increase death due to limiting access to contraception
 2001 Policy by President George W. Bush (Stanford University Study: 16 developing
countries lost shipments of contraceptives led to increased abortion rates)
 in poor countries, the most dangerous thing for a woman to do is become pregnant
 curbs access to cancer screenings, potentially undermine vaccination campaigns, and
efforts aimed at prevention of HIV and Zika (Thousands of impoverished, vulnerable
women die)
 low income, at-risk population will suffer the most
 policy is a misnomer… not “pro-life” by preventing abortions
 “pro-death” due to the limitation of access to contraceptives  increased pregnancy in
developing nations  women dying
o Marie Stopes estimation: 6.5 million unintentional pregnancies, 2.2 mil abortions,
21,700 women dying in pregnancy/childbirth
 Global gag rule: Bars groups from mentioning abortion (covers all kinds of health services
including efforts against Polio, Zika, HIV; even trafficked women)
