PRACTICAL NO: 06

Object: Demonstrate on DST Tool.

Definition: The DST is a procedure for isolating and testing the surrounding

geological formations through the drill stem test. The test is a measurement of
pressure behavior at drill stem and is valuable way to attain way to obtain
important sampling information on the formation fluid.

OR
Drill stem testing is a well head of determining the production potential of a well.
The formation fluid exert a pressure that is controlled during drilling by using a
dense drilling fluid.

Process:
The drill stem is a tool that is attached to the bottom of the drill string and lowered
to the point opposite to the formation to be tested. The DST tool is equipped with
expanded seal that permits the formation being tested to isolate from the rest of
bore hole. The drill pipe is equipped with all drilling mud so the formation fluid can
unlike to drill string. When enough time has passed, opening in the DST tools have
closed off and drill string is brought up to the surface.

Drill Stem Testing tools:

The drill stem testing tools are the reliable equipment for the accurate evaluation
of formation conditions. The various kind of DST tool can directly obtained the
temperature data from the formation test and formation pressure changes curve

during testing through the data processed the oil-gas ratio and water-gas ratio.
Some of the tool are described below:

Multi flow evaluator system:

Multi flow evaluator system are used to test the formation of cased or uncased
wells in single or straddle packing. They have their different diameter and includes:
3 1/8”, 3 ¾”,4 1/4” and 5”.

Full opening pressure responsive tool:

Full opening pressure tool are used to test the cased directional well and to perform
the acidizing, fracturing, through the tube perforating and separate zones
cementing operations. They are DST tools operated by the ball value under the
annulus pressure.

Pressure controlled tester system:

The pressure controlled tester system are available in two size:
3 ¾” and 4 ¾”. They are used to test the cased directional wells of various sizes and
operated by the annulus pressure.

Inflatable DST system:

The inflatable system has been used to test the formation of uncased wells larger
than 5 ½” in diameter, especially for the wells with the irregular bore diameter in
straddle packing. They are used to test the formation in single zones or multi zones
during one trip the system is featured by easy rotating operations and reliable
sealed sent.
