WHAT IS MY FAULT ?

She was such a beautiful girl .Only child to her parents . She never
demanded anything more than her basic needs from her parents
because she knew the value of money . She belonged to a middle class
family but her upbringing was very good . Being the only child she got
all the love and care from her parents. She only wanted to study and
keep her parents happy . She was the first girl in her family who was
going to school . She was a great cook . Everyone praised her cooking
skills in such a young age .
When she was only 15 years old her father announced her alliance with her cousin . She could not
refuse her father . She was a sensitive and very delicate creature . She accepted her cousin as her life
partner as she thought that her father will not decide anything wrong for her . Years passed and she
became 20 years old . Her father wanted to get her married so he can see her happy with her husband
and her real family . After all it was their tradition to get their girls married in early age . He and his
wife started buying things for her dowry. One day her father came home and told her mother that her
cousin Ali has got married with a girl from his office and he is bringing his bride home . Ali cheated our
daughter . He broke the engagement . Now who will marry our daughter . Saying these words her
father could not stop his tears because he loved his nephew a lot and he believed that Ali will keep
Sana happy . Sana was listening this all and tears were flowing from her eyes because she was taught
that A girl is nothing without a husband and marriage . The only thing that is important for a girl is to
keep her in laws and husband happy . No other wishes and aims are suitable for a girl So listening this
all conversation she was totally broken but nothing could be changed .

Days passed now her father only wanted to get her married to a better family. One day Some people
came with a marriage proposal . They were looking a nice family. The only son of his parents Sami
claimed that he likes Sana . Both the families agreed and marriage rituals started . Sana’s father and
mother were so happy they bought room set , appliances , clothes and utensils for her . But was that
all enough ? Sami’s father demanded a car and a gold necklace set . Belonging to a middle class family
it was not easy for Sana’s father to afford. But he thought that he has only daughter and for her
marriage he will do anything. His traditional thinking that there is nothing bad in giving so much dowry
to the daughter left him with no choice but to spend all his savings .

Unaware to that truth Sana got ready as a bride and signed the nikkah papers . She left the house
where she was born and brought up , with the hope that her father would have chosen right partner
for her . In the first days her in laws treated her well . Her father became ill and because of lack of
money for treatment he passed away . IT was the turning point of her life. 7 months passed . She was
unaware of the truth that her father fulfilled the demands of her in laws and paid them to accept her .
Her world shattered after losing her father. The behavior of her in laws and husband changed . They
started torturing her with their words and her husband even raised his hand on her . The reason for all
this cruelty was her pregnancy . She was expecting a baby girl . She was treated like a criminal in her
very difficult time . She was supposed to give love and respect but what she was given totally broke her
heart. She had no one to share her pain with . Her father left her alone on the mercy of those animals
who accepted her as family only because of dowry. Her life was turning into hell . When she refused to
abort her baby she was thrown out of the house . Walking alone on the roads she had a train of
thoughts running in her Mind . She reached her home , her own home where she was at least treated
like a girl . Her family never taught her living for herself , never taught her to say no . She spent all the
time in her in laws as maid cooking and working for them but they never respected and loved her . How
will they even know her value ? They were animals in form of humans . Her life was turned into hell at
the moment when her own father gave her hand to the people who accepted her because of their
greed . She kept asking herself that what’s her fault ?

At her home she cried vigorously in the lap of her mother . She felt herself helpless . When her little girl
came in the world she felt that now she is the strongest person on the earth . Her mother was getting
old and they had to find a way to earn and make their lives stable . She decided to sell her hand made
food .After a lot of hard work She started cooking and serving people at her small food shop. Now she
don’t care what will the relatives and people in her society say Because listening to their taunts will not
give them food and money . She promised herself to educate her daughter and give her the power to
make her own decisions , she promised herself that the sorrows she suffered in her life will never touch
her daughter’s shadow.
