Ten interesting facts or things about Cambridge

Colleges:

If you are visiting Cambridge, one of the main dishes are their colleges. Possibly the
most famous is the King’s College, founded in 1441 and whose building in the most roavie of
Cambridge and the typical image of your postcards.

University of Cambridge: Modern Period

After the Cambridge University Act formalized the organizational structure of the
University, the study of many new subjects was introduced, such as theology, history and
mother languages. Resources necessaries for new courses in the arts, architecture and
archaeology.

The Wren Library:

Is a luxury. To get an idea, there are books whit centuries of lives, unique pieces. The
oldest is from VIII centuries. This book is created in racks of old wood that cannot be accessed
very easily. Definitely in this library there are thousands and thousands of years of history in
each racks. For this reason the wren library is considered one of the most important in
Cambridge.

Punting:

Is a fantastic and romantic walk along the river cam, in a canoe driven with a kind of
stick, while the punter is telling anecdotes about 800 years of history.

You can see the seven famous faculties like St. John, Trinity Bridge of signs, wren
library, capilla del King’s college, mathematical bridge which you can’t see if you’re walking.

Pink Floyd:

Is a famous band who were from Cambridge. Is known all over the world as one of the
most recognized band of the sixties and seventies. The group produced hits like “The dark said
of the Moon”, “See Emily Play”, and others.
Park and Ride:

When you drive from the outside the city to Cambridge, you can leave your car in
parks just around the city, and there is a bus that will take you from that car-park into the city
center. It’s a very good idea to reduce the traffic in the center.

Guided bus:

Is the longest in the world (16 miles) which allows a bus to travel at high speed (the
driver just sits there whit no hands on the steering wheel). Along a disused railway line guiaded
by wheels mounted on the side of the bus which correct to concrete guide blocks. A unique
experience!

Silicon Fen:

Is a science park where you can find a large cluster of high-tech businesses focusing on
software, electronics and biotechnology. Many of these businesses have connections with the
University of Cambridge, and the area is now one of the most important technology centers in
Europe.

Mathematical Bridge:

Is a bridge which is built in 1749. This stands out because it was designed whit a curved
shape, but it was made out of all straight timber, which gives it an unusually sophisticated
engineering design, hence the name.

Newton’s Tree:

Outside Trinity College, the only tree that is there, must be a descendant of Newton’s
famous gravity tree. Where he discovered the theory of gravity when an apple fell from the
tree and hit his head.
