ALVARADO, Texas – A suitcase sits on the bed filled as Shanille Untz compares the

item in her suitcase to her list twice. She is preparing to add a new destination to her long list of

past travels.

Untz stated traveling in 1998 at the age of 19 when she traveled from DFW to Colorado

to visit a friend in the Air Force Academy. Since then she has visited 32 states in the United

States and 10 countries.

“I want to go see what’s out there beyond just the little DFW bubble,” Untz said.

“There’s so many beautiful places and things to do and see.”

Despite the beauty of traveling, Untz has had her fair share of mishaps on her travels.

Three weeks following the September 11 attack in New York city of two passenger airplanes,

Untz had her first mishap.

“I was crying because I was scared going to get back held back while my travel partner

was already on plane because he didn’t have a makeup bag with him,” Untz said about being

held back from boarding her plan as TSI Agents examined her make-up bag.

“I got yelled at because I was trying to show them how to open it, and they didn’t like me

touching the quote evidence that they were searching at the time,” she continued.

On another incident, Untz and her travel partner were held back from boarding their

flight. “We were held up for almost 30 minutes because it [boarding pass] didn’t match his ID

but it was a typographical error from the ticketing counter right there at the airport,” she said.

Despite the mishaps, Untz don’t plan to stop traveling anytime soon. One of her bucket

list items is to visit all 50 states of the United States. She has recently set her eyes on a 10-day

cruise in Italy she had found discounted.

Being a teacher, Untz has to construe time and finances for each of her travel planes

making each trip more special.

“Travel with friends make memories and when you’re in the moment or in the place

don’t let money stop you because that may be your only time to live life right there in the

moment,” Untz advises.
