Danny Glover Artist and Activist

On Wednesday April 13, I went to western hall to listen to a well known man who

is an actor and an activist his name is Danny Glover, he talked about many interesting

things about diversity, globalization and the struggles that Africa and the rest of the world

faces.

Danny Glover started appearing in plays that had a message and that were part of

the black arts movement. The black arts movement was to do relevant plays that will

empower and give voice to the need of his community, which he used art that is some

kind of vehicle for liberation, and was a vehicle for change. He quote “Acting was a way

of politicizing at one point in time what I felt was happening, what I felt was going on in

the world, Danny started appearing in activist plays.

He also believes that the suffering of any human being diminishes all of us, he

believes it’s our responsibility as Americans to make some changes in Africa, we have to

create an idea fundamentally we can change what is happening in this continent. We have

to believe that fundamentally, Glover believes that America’s contribution to the 21st

century is that we can deal with the issues of AIDS, issues of poverty and issues

surrounding the gap of development.

In the end, I enjoyed his speech and I wish to see him any time soon at Western

Illinois University, I’ll be more than happy to attend. He really inspired me.
