Writing Tasks


1. Essay – Submission 1

25 years of Internet have changed the way people communicate
with each other. Today, one can count thousands of friends on
Facebook or Instagram, and hundred thousands more followers on
Twitter. Some people even find their soul mates through
matchmaking service. Yet, sociologists argue humans are
increasingly lonely and isolated.
Write an argumentative essay about this paradox and the
advantages and disadvantages of the virtual world wide web. (280-
320 words)

2. Proposal (option 1)– Submission 2

You are planning your end of the year project on a
linguistics/literature topic that you are very enthusiastic about.
However, you have to let your supervisor and the committee know
what your project will consist of. Write a proposal specifying the
topic, the main area of research, what previous research projects
have said about this topic and how you plan to carry out the project
(methodology, resources, etc.). Write no more than 250-300 words.

3. Cover letter (option 2)– Submission 2

You want to apply for a scholarship to study abroad. You are
requested to submit a motivation letter in order to be accepted.
Write your own motivation letter and describe who you are, what
you have studied, where you have worked, why you apply for the
scholarship, what and where you want to study and your
professional goals.
