ASSIGNMENT NO 3
“ COMPUTER GRAPHICS”

Definition
Computer graphics is an art of drawing pictures, lines, charts, etc using computers
with the help of programming. Computer graphics is made up of number of pixels. Pixel is the
smallest graphical picture or unit represented on the computer screen. There are two types of
computer graphics. Interactive Computer Graphics AND Non Interactive Computer
Graphics.

Applications of Computer Graphics

1. User interfaces: It is now a well established fact that graphical interfaces provide an
attractive and easy interaction between users and computers. The built-in graphics
provided with user interfaces use visual control items such as buttons, menus, icons,
scroll bar etc, which allows user to interact with computer only by mouse-click. Typing is
necessary only to input text to be stored and manipulated.
2. Plotting of graphics and chart: In industry, business, government, and educational
organizations, computer graphics is most commonly used to create 2D and 3D graphs of
mathematical, physical and economic functions in form of histograms, bars and pie-
charts. These graphs and charts are very useful for decision making.

Classification of computer graphics

In the last section we have seen various uses of computer graphics. These uses can be
classified as shown in the fig. below. As shown in fig. below, the use of computer graphics can
classified according to dimensionality of the object to be drawn: 2D or 3D. It can also be
classified according to kind of picture: symbolic or Realistic.
1: 2D GRAPHICS:
2D graphics breaks into 2 categories.

i. Vector 2D graphics
ii. Raster 2D graphics
 Vector 2D graphics :

It use lines, shapes, and text to create a difficult images. If a image is made very big on the
monitor, it will still be as good as its regular size. This is one of the reasons vector graphics are
liked very much. Vector graphics are made with programs like Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape,
and were used for some older computer games. Today, they are often used for when computer
graphics have to be printed out.
Example:

 Raster 2D graphics :
Raster graphics use pixels to make up a larger image. This does not mean
the artist has to change a single pixel at a time - raster programs often have tools
like paintbrushes, paint buckets, and erasers to make a picture. Programs used to make these
include Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro. These are often used as part of what the
user sees when she uses a computer program.
Example:

: 3D Graphics:
3D graphics are graphics that look like objects because they are three-dimensional. This means the
computer thinks it has a height, a length, and a depth, and displays them as this. Among other things
they use solid geometry and trigonometry to create correct perspectives. Some programs used to make
3D graphics are Bryce, 3D Studio Max, Maya and Blender, and 3D graphics are used many times
in movies and TV shows and video games.
Example:

Role of computer graphics in information technology :

With the development of information technology, the resource management in communication
has also been developed, especially it has quickly changed in the current resource
management. Various departments put into a lot of room equipment. Due to the continuous
upgrading of system equipment, the system structure is more and more complex. The traditional
way of resource management has been unable to meet the needs of effective management of
the entire communication resources. The proportion of intelligent equipment is growing, but it is
still following the original artificial separation, non-real, fragmented, manual site maintenance
and query management in the area of communication resource management. Resource
utilization is relatively low. There are a lot of repeating work on scheduling, operation and
maintenance and managers. Staff movement causes a large impact on communication resource
management, and the new staff cannot immediately take over management. It is very difficult for
nonprofessionals to understand the equipment and the situation in resource management.
Resource utilization is relatively low, and managers cannot quickly and accurately understand
the resource situation.
ROLE OF COMPUTER GRAPHICS IN ENTERTAINMENT :

 Computer graphics methods are now commonly used in making motion pictures, music videos
and television shows.
 Many TV series regularly employ.
 Graphics objects can be combined with a live action.
Example:

ROLE OF COMPUTER GRAPHICS IN ENGREEGING :

Computer graphics matured over many years and played an important role in the development
of engineering products like automotive and aircraft components. The current CAX
(CAD/CAM/CAE) tools use computer graphics extensively, while helping in conceiving better
designs with improved quality. Nowadays, engineering product development is being done
concurrently and collaboratively, due to the advances in computer graphics. This paper presents
a brief overview on evolution of computer graphics over the decades and its impact on the
engineering product development. Conceptual analysis is done in order to find out the impact of
computer graphics on engineering product development. It also attempts to present, how
advances in computer graphics, have revolutionized the current engineering development and
what future technologies will offer.
