MEMORANDIUM TO: ‘MR. JOHNSON FROM: MICHELLE FALE-LAMPKIN SUBJECT: SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA PROGRAM EVALUATION DATE: APRIL. 22, 2019 Firstly, I would like to thank you for allowing me to work with the faculty at HMS to complete my practicum. One of the requirements for completing the practicum is to evaluate the operation to the media center using the GA DOE 2016 Library Media Program Evaluation Rubric. Mrs. Moore has taught me so much conceming the dai operation of a school library program. The thought that she puts into her new media Center represents her love for literacy and the students. One area that stands out to me, is the reading area equipped with stationary bikes. The area has benefited many of the students who are hyperactive. She also has an Autistic student who completes his assignments while riding the bike. It has proven to be a very productive area in the media center. Mrs. Moore often speaks of her desires to keep improving her media center's ia order to accommodate all of the students’ needs. The following is a summary of the results with an action plan to improve in some of the lower proficieney areas: Exemplary: Collaborative planning between the media specialist and teachers Professional library media staff are engaged in active teaching roles * The library media center resources encourage and support reading, viewing, and listening * Services are provided to students who have diverse learning abilities, styles, and needs * Provide and manage access to digital collection, technology tools, and technology resources the support and enhance instruetion/support curriculum © Staffing * School library media center exceeds minimum square footage for accommodating large and small groups and production space * Streaming video and other technologies used to support curriculum + Resources available on LAN and accessible outside of school to enhance instruction GALILEO provides students and teacher access to exceptional on- County support of the media center and its staff Media center budgeting that includes long-term strategic planning and supplemental funding (book fair/grants) Proficient: ine resources * Information literacy skills integrated into the curriculum * Library media policy that is implemented with periodic provision * Staff development opportunities for media center staff and by the media center staff for teachers Basic: Flexible Scheduling Accessing student achievement Improvement Plan le Scheduling: 1. Schedule library hours before school- 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM (Mon.-Thurs,) 2. Schedule library hours after school — 2:45 PM- 3:30 PM (Mon.- Thurs.) 3. Provide family night once a month- 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM 4. To accommodate the new schedule, the media clerk will come in at 7:30 AM and work until 3:30 PM (Mon.- Thurs.). The media specialist will come in at 7:00 AM and work until 3:00 PM, 5. To provide coverage for family night. A volunteer will work with the media specialist on family night. Accessing student achievement: 1. During collaborative planning, the teachers and media specialist will discuss assessment tools that will be used. 2. A database will be created to store rubrics, student self-evaluations, and student presentations. This database will be accessible, and teachers can use it to pull Tesources. 3. Teachers and media specialist will meet quarterly to evaluate the assessment tools in the database, 4. The media specialist will provide opportunities for the teachers to own information access skills and th Professional development classes in the media center and providing information detailing professional development opportunities within traveling distance. Library media policy that is implemented with periodic revisions: |. The system library media committee will meet during pre-planning to discuss ‘media center policies and procedures 2. During the meeting, policies and procedures will be reviewed and revised if necessary, 3. Media center staff and volunteers will participate in a policy and procedure implementation meeting after the revision meeting. An Updated policy and procedure handbook will be given to participants. Overall, Mrs. Moore has done an outstanding job implementing standards at HMS. She is committed towards moving towards the exemplary category in each standard. She is currently changing the operating hours to provide students the opportunity to utilize the media center before and after school. She is also researching assessment training for the teachers, as well as herself. She is also concerned with the need to meet at least once a yeat to discuss policies and procedures. I have enjoyed working with Mts, Moore, Mrs Leslie, and Mrs, Kim. {have attached the results of the evaluation, Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions about the evaluation.
