What is the Issue?

● Teen pregnancy rates are amongst the highest in the United States
● Most teen girls don’t plan on getting pregnant, but end up getting
pregnant anyway
● 8 out of 10 teen dads don’t marry the mother of their child
● Teen mothers are more likely to drop out of school

Risks

● Teenage pregnancies carry extra health risks to both mother and baby
● Often teens don’t get prenatal care soon enough which can lead to
problems later on.
● They have a higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure and its
complications.

Statistics about our community

● All races have teen pregnancy


● Hispanics had the highest birth rates for teenagers
● in 2010 with 55.7 birth rates per 1,000 women aged 15-19
● Conclusion: Teen pregnancy is an issue in our community

How does it affect our community?
● It is believed that teen pregnancy is responsible for the increase attrition
rates (dropout rates)
● Overpopulation
● Can weaken a community’s economic conditions

Why is this happening?

● They don’t have the proper parenting skills that are needed in order to
raise a child well
● Children of teen moms may miss out on many things an older mother can
give to her child
● Teenage girls put pressure on their parents for help on raising their child
Prevention
● Target messages at teen boys, not just at girls
● Make condoms widely available
● Teach kids Comprehensive Sex Ed (Sex Education)
● Encourage mentoring from parents,teachers,counselor,and ect.
● Use condom when you’re having sexual intercourse
● Use birth control pill, patch,etc.

What do teens do once they’re pregnant and what
is their option?
● There options:
a. Abortion
b. Adoption
c. Parenting
d. Schools for pregnancy girls
● Only adolescents that are pregnant get to choose what they want ,but it
can help teens to talk to someone about it.
