The Relationship between Managers, Professionals, and ESL Teachers

In order two know the relationship between those 3 things. First thing first, I need to find
out what is actually meant by professionals. As written by Ur, that professional is someone whose
work involves performing a certain function with some degree of expertise. Members of the
professional group possess certain skills, knowledge, and conventions that the lay population do
not have. Given this, professional means that a person equipped with enough skill and knowledge
in order to be an expert in his or her field. But, since professional here connected to the term ESL
teachers, means that in order to be a good ESL teacher, a person must be professional.

The professional community of English teachers has developed means of consolidating

relationships between its members and created opportunities for them to benefit from each other’s
knowledge. The requirement of being a professional ESL teacher includes:

 Communicative, means that the professional teacher needs to be able to exchange

or express any ideas and innovation
 Recognize certain standards, of knowledge (of the subject and of its methodology),
of dedication and hard work, of behavior and of relationships with clients (learners,
patients) and other professionals.
 Commitment and responsibility, professional teachers are committed to bringing
about the best learning they can in their classes.

ESL teachers must be professional in order to be able to be a good manager. Manager is a higher
level, where, it can be reached if a teacher is professional enough in his or her work. Thereby,
these three things are connected. Being a manager is a wholly different from teachers’ tasks. A
manager should be able to manage and understand the school well, but before that a teacher must
be professional first.
