Brief report on GIS data model awareness session

Introduction

The Ministry of Local Government through Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP)
has conducted a working session with Government Institutions/Agencies, Local government and
councils with an objective of raising awareness to invited stakeholders on a developed Data Model for
developing an integrated GIS. There are several initiatives established by the government and
development partner to develop and integrated GIS.

On the course of implementing these initiatives, a data model has been prepared so that all invited
stakeholders should provide input to complete. The given data model contains the following data
categories;-

1. Plots Details
2. Building details
3. Unit business/Activity details
4. Resident details
5. Community Data
6. Service Networks
7. Non-unit based economic activities

In respect to health care insurance, it was recommended to include health insurance type, membership
number, health facility geographical locations, and health facility plot owner.

Conclusion

There is an on-going data collection exercise using this developed data model. Once this exercise is
complete, data sharing will be accessed from a single repository.
