We spent time discussing and completing activities that caused us to identify characteristics of

what a “perfect teacher” would look like.

Keeping in mind what you learned in class, while you are in field, you will observe your mentor
teacher and see what qualities stand out to you.

Name:
Grade & Subject Observed:

Identify 5 characteristics that your mentor teacher has that demonstrate an effective teacher.
Collaborates, helpful, follows content, cares about
students, has fun while teaching.

Identify 2 characters that you have observed that could possibly make learning challenging in
their classroom. Also, offer suggestions for the improvement.
Reading to them, having them read out loud to the class. I think it’s hard for children to
read along while someone else is reading because the person reading might read slow or
fast. I think they should read to themselves and fill out a paper with questions about what
they read and turn it in at the end of the period.
Use your Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession to complete the next section.

Do you observe your mentor teacher to meet all of the standards listed?

Pick one standard that you observed the most. List that one below.

Standard 5: Teachers create learning environments that promote high levels of learning and
achievement for all students.

Now, read the bullet points for the standard that you listed. Choose one bullet point that you
have observed the teacher meeting. Copy the bullet point. Then, explain what the teacher is
doing to meet that requirement.
• Teachers motivate students to work productively and assume responsibility
for their own learning.

The teacher goes around and helps students who need help and talk to the
students regularly. She reminds them when to start working and when to move
on to the next assignment.
