Teacher In-service

During this teacher in-service all of the district elementary teachers meet together for a

webinar. The webinar was over the HMH language arts/reading curriculum. During this time,

we watched the webinar and listened to them talk about HMH and the benefits it had. It was

interesting to see this because I had never even thought about how the school decide on their

curriculums. Come to find out, Lyman County School District changes their curriculums every 6

years, and this year was the time to change the language art one. I found that there were a lot

of things that need to be taken into consideration when deciding on the curriculum. The

teachers were asking questions like “Will the standards be listed? What is the writing portion

like? Are there interactive workbooks? Will there be an online portion?” I really learned that

the teachers are picky about what curriculum they will be teaching, which I thought was

amazing because that means they really do care about their students and what they what they

will be teaching them.
