Study Squads

As I began student teaching, I was asked to participate in a group effort to help the

Kennebec elementary students. Without a doubt I agreed to helping. My cooperating teacher,

the special education teacher, and the principal decided to meet up and develop what they

now call “study squads”. Study squads are a type of intervention for the Kennebec elementary

students. They are placed in educational groups based on their MAPS testing scores. On

Monday and Wednesday at 2:00, the 2nd and 3rd graders are sent to their study squad groups.

One Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 the 1st and Kindergarten are sent to their study squads. And

on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 the 4th and 5th grade was sent to their study squads. I played

a role in helping by being one of the study squad teachers during my prep times. I taught a 2 nd

grade group as well as a first-grade group. I really enjoyed this, and I feel that is helped me to

gain more experience with the varying grade levels.
