Lesson idea implementation:

The lesson will start off with an introduction to Georgia in the New South. I will give the students an
anticipatory set where I ask them if it is fair for someone to be denied voting rights just based off the color of
their skin. After we stress how unfair it is, I explain to the students how that that used to happen in Georgia in
the late 1800’s. We then go over the ways that African-Americans were denied their right to vote which
include Poll Taxes, White Primary, Literacy Tests, and the Grandfather Clause.
After discussing this, I introduce the students Adobe Spark and iMovie. I show them how it all works. I then
assign them their video project where they have to make a minute-long video about the four topics above. At
this point I show the students my example video and take any questions they might have about the
assignment.

Importance of technology: Technology is essential for the students to create their videos. It lets the students
express their knowledge on a subject with something other than a test.

Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: I will vet these websites and make sure they are safe for these students
to use. I will make sure they share no personal information. I will get permission from parents and admin
before using them.
Reflective Practice: This activity is important because it helps students learn how to use Adobe Spark and
iMovie. Students might need to use these two software for projects they might have later on in their school
career as well as in their own professional life when they get older.
