SYMPTOMS: The internal core leaves become purple black and

eventually loose its turgency and can be pulled out easily. Bacterial
ooze flows from infected leaves usually with disgusting odor.
Finally, the inner core totally wilts and folds over the dead plant
remains.

SYMPTOMS: Soft rot is characterized by the softening of the

interior tissues of the bulb. The affected tissue turns yellow
initially, then it turns brown as the disease progresses on the
bulb. The neck of the infected bulbs can be soft when
punched. The pathogen is on the ground and can be spread by
irrigation water.

SYMPTOMS: The infected area becomes brownish at first sight, but

once the stem is cut, internal necrotic damage can be observed. The
flowering stems, weak at their base, start to fold and finally fall
down. If the pathogen is able to invade the root´s vascular ring,
flower production by plant will be diminished.

SYMPTOMS: If the infection is severe it will be seen after 30 days of

plantation. The core leaves usually wilt, the plant´s growth is
minumum and finally dies. The most severe symptom occurs at bulb
filling, because if the pathogen is already in the leaves, it will
translocate downwards and multiply agressively in the bulb tissues.
The bacteria liquify the leaves making them slippery and stinky. A
whiteish bacterial thick ooze is present when core leaves are pressed.

Erwinia sp. Black Rot

SYMPTOMS: This disease is most common at final stages of bulb

growth, but the bacteria can survive symptomless on the ground and
the leaves. The rot is usually black, stinky and hollows the bulb in a
very short time. Differs from Pseudomonas because this infection
occurs upwards, from the roots towards the bulb and the leaves. It is
possible to disseminate the disease due to infected transplants.

SYMPTOMS: The main leave’s nerve begins to decolorate, often

followed by a black thick line, surrounded by an intense yellowish
halo when the leaves are directed to sunlight. If the infection
becomes severe, the pathogen can penetrate to the bottom of the
stem. At this point, the plant wilts and eventually dies. Bacteria is
more likely to produce massive infections trough the wounds made
after weather conditions such intense rain, wind or hail.

SYMPTOMS: The leaves wilt, die, and turn dark brown to black,
usually remaining attached to the tree throughout the summer. As
the bacteria move through the pedicel, the tissue becomes water-
soaked and dark green. Infected leaves and fruits tissues may exude
either small droplets of a milky-white ooze or fine, hairlike strands
containing millions of fire blight bacteria that can initiate new
infections.
