Project Part 7

Reflection

Math 1040, Statistics, has been challenging, interesting, and overall, an eye-opening

class. We’ve learned Statistics, which is something we apply in life more than I was

aware of.

During this semester we worked on The Skittles Project; in this project we applied all the

statistic skills taught in this class. This project was divided in 7 parts. The concepts in

this project were: Data collection, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression,

probability, sampling distributions and confidence intervals, and hypothesis tests.

These skills learned in this class will help with my Nursing career, specially when it

comes to data collecting, pie graphs, line graphs, bar graphs, histograms, etc. I think it’s

going to make me feel more confident when looking at a patient’s chart. Another

concept that will be useful is the hypothesis testing, and how using a null and alternative

hypothesis is necessary to come to a better conclusion.

I still have many more classes to take before I graduate, some of them are very difficult

like Anatomy and Physiology, however, after taking Statistics I can apply some of the
skills learned. When I mentioned at the begging that this class was an eye-opening

class, I was referring to how this class has changed the way I think and analyze things. I

feel as if this class unlocked a part in my brain that has always been there, but perhaps

not used as was meant to.

Statistics is indispensable if we want to see the world from an observational and

analytical point of view. I’m glad I took this class and was lucky enough to have an

instructor who not only was passionate about teaching her students, but also carrying

and compassionate to each one of us as an individual.
