Essence of practice
Plastic surgery: To perform a variety of surgical reconstructions, especially the cases of cleft, facial cleft,
microtia, craniomaxillofacial trauma, burns, wounds, congenital anomaly of the genital, congenital anomaly
of the hand and a variety of soft tissue defects.
I am interested to further pursue knowledge in the field of maxilofacial surgery. In my current hospital, i
have treated around 200-250 patients every year and all of them were reconstruction patients. About half
of them were maxillofacial trauma (fracture), followed by cleft, congenital anomaly, ear trauma related
to accident or burn and other type of burns, etc. During my residency, I have performed microtia
reconstructive surgery a number of times under craniofacial consultant supervision. The more I learn about
microtia, the more I realize that microtia is a very unique case and an opportunity to further deepen my
knowledge of the case would give me the chance to help treat more patients with microtia by performing
1
surgery better than before. What I have observed from Prof. Zung Chung Chen as the only microtia expert
in Asia is that hthe usage of medphore blocks that are sculpted and applicated differently in each patient.
Considering the fact that this particular technique is new to the region, to have knowledge of such
technique would be highly beneficial for patient treatment
