My name is Sobia Abbasi.

I am 26 years old and I belong from southern Punjab-Bahawalpur but my


residence is in Islamabad from 12 years all my educational background right from o levels till M.phil is
from Islamabad.

I have 4 years of diverse experience in editing, creative writng, professional/academic research and
research management/administration. I have worked along with my studies that’s why I have earned so
much expensie in reasecth sector as u can see on my CV

And now after competing my studies I want to persue teaching as because I think it will build more
confidnec in me to be a public speaker and also to become a scholar. During my stay in the USA I had all
the teachers in my group and I realized that they have a really great speaking power though I could
speak well too but a teacher has to face the audinec everrtyday so that is why now I want to make
teaching as my carrer as just now I got done with my syudies.

Currently, I am working as a Freelance Researcher at Zeecomms. Zalan Communications is a non-profit


organization whose mission is to empower local community throughout Pakistan and to share life saving
information with disaster hit and disaster prone community in time of emergency and in normal times. I
have been assigned to do the literature review and also collecting the data on current performance
indicators of KP government for drafting a research report on “Performance of KP Government from
year 2014-2015”.

Mainly, my expertise is in qualitative research on human rights focused on the population of


tribal areas of Pakistan (FATA). One of my achievements during my work at FATA Research
Center was devising an innovative and non-coercive policy of ‘deradicalization of ex-militants
and prisoners’, this was highly appreciated by UNDP as they converted my paper to a full-
fledged sponsored research project that was awarded to FATA Research Centre, Islamabad. The
study was focused on ‘deradicalization through education and vocational training’ of prisoners
and ex-militants.

I also have a good exposure of international projects as the US State Department had also
chosen me in their ‘Exchange Scholar program’ in 2014. I was given an opportunity to do
extensive research on ‘Iran’s Nuclear Program and its implications for US national Security’
with the aid of US state department in one of their ‘high research universities’ known as Ball
State University. I spent 6 weeks in the United States I improving and grooming my research
skills. Besides this administrative and management experience, I am an expert and experienced
researcher. I also have a good exposure of international projects as the US State Department had
also chosen me in their ‘Exchange Scholar program’ in 2014. I was given an opportunity to
complete my M.Phil thesis with the aid of US State Department in one of their ‘high research
universities’ known as Ball State University

I have worked at the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization at Bahria University
Headquarters, Islamabad for more than one year. My position as a Research Associate
(Publications/editing) was especially allocated to strengthening university’s sponsored research
projects and finding foreign scholarships for the faculty and researchers of Bahria University. I
acted as a main point of contact for the researchers of the University for providing them with
information of external and internal funding for their research projects. My job title can be
rephrased accurately as Research Support Officer.
Apart from the main duty of administrating research grants and I was given the duty to organize
research trainings and seminars for researchers and faculty members of the university thus
helping in capacity and capability building in professional research of the university. I also
helped Bahria in forming linkages with external universities for joint research ventures. Other
main tasks included; supporting and helping the web developer in maintaining the digital
database of faculty and contacts of the university and commercializing/marketing research
projects in a yearly publication known as ‘Research at Bahria’. My duty also was to coordinate
with all the constitute units of Bahria university across Pakistan to get an updated information of
their research projects and acquaint them with respective research policies being introduced time
to time in Bahria University statutes and also acquainting them with the funding and scholarship
opportunities.
 Publication: Research at Bahria (Research profile of Bahria University): 'Research at Bahria' is a
publication of Bahria University, R&D/ORIC department that aims to market and commercialize
the research endeavors of BU in one compact book. The Research profile of BU familiarizes its
incumbent faculty, students and potential researchers with their relevant departments, areas of
research and most importantly the research groups’ operating in BU. Under the supervision of
R&D advisor, director and manager, ORIC department, I have solely worked on this task. I was
assigned the duty of drafting the book, compiling the research data, proofreading and
effectuate the final editing of the project.

 Publication: Bahria University R&D Policy Handbook: ‘BU R&D Policy Handbook’ is a publication
of Bahria University, R&D/ORIC department that acquaints and guides the researchers/Faculty
Members of BU with the relevant research policies and in finding suitable National/International
funding agencies for their research projects. Under the supervision of R&D Advisor, Director and
Assistant director, ORIC department, I have solely worked on this task. I was assigned the duty
of drafting the book, phrasing the policies, proofreading and effectuate the final editing of the
project.
I have worked at FRC as a Research Associate for 9 months. FRC is a non partisan and non-political
research organization based in Islamabad. It is the first ever think-tank of its kind that focuses on
Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber-Paktunkhaw (KP) in its entirety.
I have worked on various publications and projects that were funded by The Royale Danish Embassy
Islamabad, USAID and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). My Job duties included;
 Political reporting/Media monitoring of FATA
 Writing and editing research papers
 Leading and Assisting research projects
 Writing Press Release of the seminars/events
 Communicating with other NGOs and NPOs
 Translation of reports from the field, and
 Event management.

I have led a research study on Pashto literature titled as Impact of War on Terror on Pashto Literature
and Art. The aim of the study was to recognize literature as an effective tool in counter-terrorism and it
stressed upon utilizing literature, art, media, and education for resolving the conflict as it deals with the
root of the problem i.e. 'terrorism' and violent ideology.
I have worked at Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA), a spin-off of the Free and
Fair Election Network (FAFEN) as a Media Monitoring Assistant in their Election Violence Monitoring
(EVM) project. The project was sponsored by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) to study
electoral and political violence during the May 2013 Elections of Pakistan. My task was to monitor the
violent incidents from print media and record them in EVM database.

I have worked at NUST Headquarters as a Research Intern for 5 months. I have assisted the following
research projects/publications.

 Sustained Economic and Technological Development of China- Areas of Cooperation Particularly


in Science, Technology and Higher Education for Mutual Advantage.
 National Trade Corridor for National Development and Regional Cooperation.

Furthermore, I am a good communicator, ambitious, goal oriented and can internalize new things
very fast. On the previous posts I have been always receiving excellent feedback from my
employers, which proves my strong commitment to perform my responsibilities in professional
and effective manner. Seeing my performance, confidence, commitment and responsible
behavior, sometimes my authority at the office solely relied on me regarding some high profile
projects. I would like to work in a team, but I am also comfortable working on my own.
