Ref: 1,G.0.(0).No.84/ MA&WS{DMC) dt.10.3.1994 2.G.0.(D).No.454/ MARWS(DMC) at.22.8.95 speek TWAD Board maintains 556 number of Combined water supply schemes with a designed supply of 2146MLD of water, covering 8 Corporations, 67 Municipalities, 347 Town Panchayats and 48,948 Rural Habitations benefitting 4.23 Crore people of both urban & rural in Tamil Nadu state except Chennai metropolitan area. The total iength of the pipe line laid already and under maintenance by TWAD Board works out to a total length of 1.20 lakh Kilometer with various types of material, class and diameter. These pipelines are almost laid along and across the Rural, OMR, MDR, SH, NH, & NHAI roads on permission from the respective departments and as per the directions of them after paying the adequate restoration charges at the time of execution. Due to various developmental activities like widening of roads, construction of culverts, Bridges etc., taken by the rural development department OMR, MDR, SH, Bridges etc., taken by the rural development department OMR, MDR, SH, NH, NHAI both in State and National level, the already laid existing pipelines gets buried in the middle of the Road way & subjected to heavy lof 2 vehicular traffic resulting in leaks / bursts leading to continuous damage for the pipe lines and for the laid roads . Now it is highly essential a) to ascertain the damages caused by various developmental activities b) to assess the cost of remedial measures to be taken up. ©) to initiate the steps to be taken against the department causing damages and to recover the cost of damages 4) to take up remedial works immediately in order to reduce the loss of precious water to the maximum extent and improving supply status. ©) To arrive at a policy to be recommended to the Government for adoption in this regard. Hence all the Chief Engineers requested to furnish the details on the above aspects as er the format furnished below early before, 15.04.2029 without any omission so as to send @ dupes for Managing Director, 9 TWAD Board, Chennai-05.
