My name is Natalie Jatulis and I am a senior here at Merancas Middle College High School. I
have chosen to complete my project on the benefits of occupational therapy for children with
sensory processing disorders (SPD). I chose this because my goal is to become a pediatric
occupational therapist (OT).
Overall, receiving occupational therapy helps improves the lives of children with sensory
disorders by improving their happiness by making them more comfortable, creating a safe
environment for these children, and lessening negative reactions to everyday activities.
I completed my service learning at Lake Norman Children's Therapy. I chose this because it is a
reputable office that offers occupational therapy. I went there once a week and became very with
those I shadowed which was a great way to get hands on research. I learned a lot through this
experience.
I have learned how beneficial occupational therapy really is for sensory processing disorders
along with other types of disorders. This has also taught me how much I will be able to make a
difference in children's lives by becoming an OT.
I really enjoyed creating this project, completing the research, and learning so much more about
SPD and the benefits of OT. The service learning experience has reassured me that I want to go
to college to become an OT.
Sincerely,
Natalie Jatulis
