DANCE EDUCATION LESSON PLAN

GRADE LEVEL & NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 3rd grade

TIME: 25-30 mins

EQUIPMENT: Boom box, music cd, rhythm sticks, scarves.

OBJECTIVES:
Psychomotor
1. The student will be able to practice psychomotor skills during the warm up activity as directed by the teacher.
Cognitive
1. The student will recognize a variety of shapes and move the body

1. The student will perform continuously dance moves during the lesson focus and also perform dances that
show work activities.

CALIFORNIA K-5 DANCE and/or PE STANDARDS (identify whether Dance or PE, you can use both):
Introductory/Warm-up Activity: 1.1 Combine and perform basic locomotor skills, moving on a specific
pathway (e.g., skip in circles, slide in zigzags, run in a variety of linear paths). Combine and perform locomotor
and axial movements (e.g., walk and turn, stretch and slide).

Lesson Focus: 3.2 Describe and demonstrate ceremonial and folk/traditional dances that show work activities
(e.g., harvesting, fishing, weaving).

Closing/Cool Down Activity: 2.4 Create a wide variety of shapes and movements, using different levels in

PART 1: INTRODUCTORY/WARM-UP ACTIVITY (2-5 mins):

Modifications for students with disabilities (2):


1. If the student is unable to hop, or skip they can just move along with class as long as they make some

3. If the child is not able to perform the activity, they can ask for confirmation or also do it at his/her own
pace as long as there is movement.
