There is a group of three authors, Neil D. Weinstein, Peter M. Sandman and Susan J. Blalock.

3) Explain the purpose of this article: (Who is the target audience? What is the article
attempting to accomplish?)

The purpose of this article is to acknowledge quantitative differences among people in their
positions on different variables, and consequently, in their likelihood of action. The target
audience was youngsters with HIV and AIDS

4) Explain the question at issue addressed by this article: (Is the article trying to figure
something out, settle a question or solve a problem? Be specific.)

The article attempts to explain how a person comes to decisions to take action and how he or she
translates that decision into action.

5) Explain the point of view of this article: (Which position, or theoretical perspective is
the article presenting?)

The author of this theory (PAMP) talked about the adoption of health-protective behavior where
they say that a progress in behavioral changes can be tracked by a (pre-determined) sequence of
qualitatively measurable stages and they also discussed about the barriers effecting the progress
of such changes depending on the stage a person has reached.

What are the theories, principles, or models used?)

The theory is based on PAPM model, suggesting that a behavioral change in an individual can be
determined by categorizing its progress in a sequence of different stages.

7) Identify the implications and/or consequences of the ideas presented in this article:
(What would happen if these ideas were accepted or implemented? Consider both positive
and negative outcomes.)
There are several outcomes associated with the idea presented in the said article including, but
not limited, to issues arising due to different interpretations of the PAPM, defining the variables
or stages and their order along with the fact that this model doesn’t offer some simple process to
design interventions since variables can vary for every individual. Rather, PAPM can be treated
as a generic framework to further build upon.

8) Summarize your personal reaction to this article:

The article describes a set of categories (stages), defined in terms of psychological processes
within individuals. All stages are defined in terms of mental states, rather than factors external to
the person, such as current or past behaviors. It attempts to explain how a person comes to a
decision to take an action and how he or she translates that decision into an action.
