SOFA SCORE

A number of scoring systems based on clinical parameters have been developed to help in early recognition of
shock. The SOFA scoring system has been used for initial screening and for ongoing assessment of shock
victims. It has been most utilized in the setting of septic shock for those ages 60 years and older. A SOFA
score of 7 or more on initial evaluation has been associated with significant shock, with a score of 13 or greater
associated with significant risk for mortality in the intensive care setting.
