Illinois State COM Week 2018: Career Institute

NORMAL, Ill. – COM Week will host its communication major-focused Career Institute from

9:00 a.m. to noon, Thursday, April 19 in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center on

ISU’s campus.

The purpose of the Career Institute is to educate current students on professional

etiquette, as well as provide an opportunity for students to network with industry professionals.

Unlike other career advancement events, the Career Institute will primarily be geared towards

communications majors.

The institute, where admission is free will have two components, professional

development seminars and a career fair. Seminars will include segments such as resume

critiques, planning for graduate school and developing elevator pitches. The career fair will

include recruiters from organizations such as State Farm, Easter Seals and Delta Technical

Solutions.

“Getting to attend a career fair aimed specifically at my area of study is exciting,

especially because other career fairs on campus often have very limited options for

communications students,” says ISU sophomore public relations major Katherine Helander.

“This will be a great opportunity to network with working professionals in my field.”

This event is part of Communication Week (COM Week), an annual event sponsored by

ISU’s School of Communication, taking place April 16 – 20, 2018. Admission is free and all ISU

students are invited to attend. For more information, go to the COM Week 2018 website at
