WHY HOUSING IN AMIDST OF INDUSTRIES???

The site is located in the medieval of industries. And also, there is a natural kotar with its undulating
shape passing by the site making the site in parts apart from all these a road is going from the
centre of the site and this locality comes under a low line area which accumulates water. Mostly all
the industries around the vicinity are packaging and dry industries and a very few are the chemical
or liquid based industries. So, all these industries dispose their waste outcome in the kotar which is
passing by. And due to these situations, the water which is in the kotar is polluted and there is lot of
solid waste into it which produces smell and making it inhabitable to live beside it.

First and foremost, idea was to stop this solid waste to enter the side and dispose it. And also, to
filter out the water such that all false smell disappears. All this is happening because government
has proposed a housing project in the centre of industries. Housing means the place for people of
every age group to live, grow, learn and live a healthy lifestyle. So, all these aspects of housing to
fulfil on this site is a challenge in itself because of industries covering it from all sides. Coming down
to core housing, the buildings are not the conventional building as you see around every other
place. Using of modular housing as a typology comes down to its details. Every unit is in the
shipping container. Yes, shipping container. Question will rise that “why shipping containers?” “how
to live in those container box which are made for goods to transport?”

As the world is moving towards a sustainable future, it is necessary to rethink the use of
conventional building materials. An approach towards sustainable and low-cost housing is in the
need of the hour. The Shipping Container is one such potential building material that boasts of
good structural quality, can be recycled easily and is universally available. The structural and
dimensional understanding of container are essentially being considered. Creating different spaces
and elements by the arrangements of the container was explored. Creating cargotecture house for
workers community as quickly and low cost is the requirement of the workers living under a
corrugated metal sheet. Understanding the user group and their needs as workers either stay alone
away from their villages or have migrated with their family. It provides the facility in different
options of DORM, 1BHK or 1.5 BHK house depending on the need.Looking at the sustainable factor
and future, land and water is very essential as a natural resource so by using this shipping
container’s as building material such that in case of any crises or such incident the entire land can be
made vacant and all the resident can be relocated to another site rapidly. And that land can be used
as another use after that.

So, all these containers units are stacked as various clusters and all the cluster are interacting with
each other and opening into the open space all the spaces are divided by the kotar are connected by
the bridges such that they do not get isolated. The building material is such that it traps immense
amount of heat within so for this and insulating layer is added to the walls and also there is a
thought of covering entire group of clusters with a large canopy and also covered by green cover. So
that heat gain can be reduced. And the living environment can be enhanced.

The worker class is given all the basics of the life which they were missing in their life.
