1. Describe motivation strategies the teacher uses to insure the students pay attention into
learning? Provide examples of some of the phrases used by the teacher to stimulate motivation!
The teacher and aid used instructional songs to engage students in daily activities in
the classroom such as cleaning up toys and getting their attention. They sung the “clean up”
& “head, shoulders, knees, and toes” song. Ms. Williamson also uses the thumbs up, down
and sideways technique with the children. They understand if she gives them a sideways
thumb then they are behaving in a negative way and if they do not correct their behavior, they
can get a thumbs down. The children were very receptive to all these techniques. When it was
time for breakfast the students were asked to sit in a circle and when the teacher called out
colors, if the student was wearing the color then they could go to their breakfast seat. This,
aided the children in learning colors and followin:
ns. During story time the students
were asked to sit with their spoons in their bowls, meaning legs crossed and hands in
between their legs.2. Did the teacher use any media? If yes, please describe what it was used for. Was the media
used to the greatest advantage. If not, why not. What other type of media/AV Is available in the
classroom?
The teacher used media, a laptop, to show the students an example of an art activity
they would be creating. It was based off the Dr. Seuss book, “Put Me in the Zoo.” The
students used paper plates and glued eyes and colorful pom-poms to the plates to create
their own version of the leopard. The media was used briefly and it was a great way to depict
to the children what they would be creating.
3. Describe and provide examples of the different activities the teacher used to present o:
reinforce information. (Possibilities might include: Telling, reading, listening, role playing,
discovering)
Ms. Wil
mson read “Put Me in the Zoo” to the children, and while reading she asked
interactive questions about the book. Including: What color spots do the children see? Where
did the leopard want to be? When the children did not lis
ren during story time they were
asked to sit on the outside of the “water” (the blue spot of the reading circle). They were
reminded to keep their hands to themselves and give space to other students. Ms. Williamson
also encouraged the students to ask for help from each other when trying to open their
‘words and manners.
breakfast items, she praised them for using th
4, Describe methods the teacher uses to assess the student's progress or understanding of the
lesson
Ms. Williamson would use a version of “Simon Says” to see if the children were paying
attention. Such as, “please touch your nose if you can hear me, touch your eyes if you can
hear me, touch your knees if you can hear me.” This would then lead into the “head,
shoulders, knees and toes” song. To assess if children understood the lesson, she would ask
