Suemy Zapata EDU 201 Professor Christensen May 3, 2019 Field Observation Assignment #1 1. The classroom environment was fantastic and full of exciting activities to do. Mr, White's classroom door was always open. The open door felt ikea sense of welcoming. I felt comfortable, welcomed, and respected by the teacher and students, This class has six Tong tables with four rows of chairs on each long table, There is a white board anda projector. In the back ofthe room there are 4 book shelves. I found books like The Thief FAHRENHEIT, and Romeo and Juliet, Mr, White desk was inthe back ofthe class was he can keep an eye to the students. The class was really organized. 2. There are a total of 28 students inthe class all 8 graders. There are 18 girls and 10 boys ‘This is a Multicultural school and diverse School. I did not see any student with physical disabilities, but there were 5 girls and 3 boys with glasses 53. ‘There are posted rules on the walls. The posters were made by student with colorful pictures. Posters had: Let the teacher teach, Be quiet, Be respectful, ay attention, Ask questions, Don’t be disruptive, Another poster: Be focus; be on topic, Listen to teacher. ‘Another sign was be prepare to lear; Have materials ready, pay atention, don’t get distracted, Use time wisely, Study for test, be organized, and follow teacher's directions. ‘One more poster had: Equality, Respect yourself and others, being mindful, Listen to others. There was also around poster: No Bullying Zone. 4. During observation, I di not see any situation enforced by teacher. Students were respectful and quiet, The teacher is relaxed and not demanding. Usually when some situation arrives, he talks to student and that is enough. He ealls parents only when the situation gets out of control. His rules are to talk to student, parent phone eall and parent conference when the situation warrants it. Assigment#2 1 ‘The workflow is easy and convenient. The room is spacious and well organized. Students work at ther tables. They tur in their work in a basket in front ofthe room, There are two baskets on time basket and the ather one for late work basket. Students pick up work in the fiont of the classroom in colored portfolios. ‘In my opinion the physical arangement of the room can be improved by getting rid of the long tables instead having individual desks. In that way, students have the ability to move easly in the room, Maybe have lager, wider bookshelves inthe bake for mote room and student willbe able to sit in groups and read books. Assignment #3, 1 ‘Mr, White does not post or schedule events daily. Every student here has @ iPad which they use to do their work. They go to Google classroom. Teacher sometimes out aa pps agenda but only when he remembers Instructions are delivered in a whole group. He uses audio clips and sensory modality Which they hear and write and use the Kinesthetic learning Mr White's teaching style i relaxing, fun, friendly, caring, and respectful and does not pressure students in any kind of way. He gives extra time fo turnin work and only ‘wants students to try and interact in class. ‘The teachers use various learning styles during his lessons, Mr. White uses visa, auditory, and kinesthotic. During his clase I observed him putting videos, pictuss and poems in his project monitor. He puts music while students are doing their work. 1 think he isan excellent teacher because it does not only make the class fun but it tives student the opportunity to learn and experience diferent kins of learning. ‘Students seem engaged in the lesson because teacher makes i interesting and interacts with students during lessons. He does not pressure students he lets students engage in their way. For example the class was reading a play and everyone seem ‘engaged inthe reading laughing and excited about the story. 1 did not see any students isolated from the rest of the class. Everyone is engaged in their own style. Most of the students are quiet and some are more verbal than others during discussions. I noticed more quiet students than verbal students but everyone ‘was paying attention, ‘Mr: White uses transition words for example: how are we doing? did you finish? need ‘more time, next, ready and ok. Since this is a English class teacher is just focused on English and students know that there is no other subject to study, He usually has a warm up and then announces that this is what we are going to do today or vist Google classroom, Some attention getting signals are like writing in the board without saying anything. Attention getting commands he uses are remember hhave any questions, let’s move on fo the next, ae you ready, do you need extra ime, ‘Teacher uses a hand signal when students have to listen and be quiet. 9. I did not experience any behavior issues during tis period clas, Students are respectful and polite to each other. Mr: White said when he has a problem he usually talks to student with that is enough for students to understand, He said his plan is first to tak to student, second would be parent phone call and last a parent conference. 10, There is adress code and badge policy. Students have tobe in dress code every dry «and wear their badges. The teacher has to check fr those two things in the moming ‘which hinder starting the class. Assemblies help the culture of the school, but it also takes away instructional time for the students, Assignment #4 1, Jim Bridger middle school isa old building probably build in the 1950’s. There is the 2007s, 300°s,400’s, 00's, 600s, 700's,800"s, and 900's halls. The 900's rooms are portables and the rest are inside the building. Thre is fencing round the school. In front of the school there isa tree without leaves, no grass and some ‘bushes, In the back of the building there is grass where students play soceer and {do PE activites that is also fenced around, The school has 2 parking lots one in the front and one in the back. Special needs students are dropped inthe front and picked up in the back. Students have swimming pool they go during the warm days in school 2, ‘The walls inside are made of bricks painted with a white soli color. Halls have ‘natural light and light coming from the ceiling. No windows are inthe classrooms or halls. Classrooms and offices have carpet, except the health office, Inthe halls there are lockers which are decorated and painted, For example some lockers have drawings of thunderbird, sports and mariachi. Unfortunately lockers are not used inthis sebool CULTURE OF THE SCHOOL: 1. The Academy at Jim Bridger Middle school mission is student centered ‘community that fosters rich learning environments focused on rigor, relevance, ‘and relationships for all students. The school vision is student centered leaming community where all students are given the opportunity to unlock their potential, facilitated by students, parents, and staff. The mascot is the falcons. 2. Visitors that come in the main office a greeted and have to signin a folder along with sticker badge with their name on it Interactions inthe font office are very friendly and respectful, 53. Student's socialization takes place during passing periods, in the cafeteria, and quad. When students are inthe quad they interact in groups, some of them
