Introduction

Starting from a small store in Butuan City in March 1, 1988, Desmark has grown to become
one of the leading players in the motorcycle and home appliance retail industry in the Philippines.
Desmark is a retail establishment that makes quality product affordable to Filipinos from all walks
of life through its in-house installment plans. Over the years and together with its affiliate Premio
Corporation, Desmark has expanded its operation to over 160 branches nationwide. Desmark is
mainly found in Northern and Southern Mindanao but has also expanded to South Luzon, Metro
Manila, North Luzon, Cebu and Negros. These range from major cities such as Davao City,
Cagayan De Oro City, Butuan City, Surigao City, General Santos City, Iligan City, Dumaguete
City, Siquijor, Tuburan Cebu,Liloan Cebu, Laguna, Pasig Metro Manila, Las Pinas, Pampanga,
Tarlac, Batangas and to more rural areas such as Kalilangan, Bayugan and Mangagoy. Desmark
Corporation is one of the key dealers for Honda motorcycles and numerous home appliance
companies such as Sony, Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Haier, Markes, TCL, Sanyo, and
Daikin.

With the combination of aggressive promotional activities, great customer service and a
loyal customer base, the company has garnered several awards for growth and achievement from
major companies such as Sharp Philippines, Honda Philippines and Matsushita Electronics
(Panasonic). In fact, last 2014, Desmark was awarded by Honda Philippines for being the 4th
largest motorcycle dealer in the country. Ever since then, Desmark continues to be part of the
Top10 Honda dealers in the Philippines. Not only that, Desmark continues to thrive in the
appliance industry with 10th place nationwide for Samsung Philippines and 8th place nationwide
for Sony Philippines.

Southbest Hardware starting from a small store here in Tanauan Batangas in early’s 2000.
Hardware stores sometimes known as DIY stores, sell household hardware for home improvement
including building materials, hand tools, power tools, keys, locks, hinges, chains, plumbing,
supplies, electrical supplies, cleaning products, housewares, tools, utensils, paints, and lawn and
garden products directly to consumers for use at home or for business.
Warehouse Process of Desmark Dupoint

The desmark Dupoint warehouse uses a process which is the most popular here in the
Philippines. They use the U-Flow process, means the receiving and releasing area happens on the
same place. their materials had been delivered on them by trucks, then they store all of this inside
the warehouse according to its categories. Their warehouse is subdivided into four categories such
as tv’s and computer parts, heavy appliances, motorcycles and its part and the raw materials use
to repair their products. they’re not releasing the product if it not already sold but once it already
sold or purchase by the customer, the store personnel will pick the product for examination and
once it is fit for selling, they will release the product. They also offer a free delivery once it
purchased.
Warehouse Process of Southbest Hardware

The Sotuhbest hardware uses the both U-flow and through-line Process. They use U-Flow
process because heavy materials enter and exits the same place such as metals, woods, cement,
sand and hallow blocks. On the other hands they use the through line process when the customer
purchase only a small type material such as hammers or nails. The product has been received on
the back part of the warehouse and release on the front of the store. Southbest hardware also store
materials very organized for easy picking and dispatch. That’s how the process of warehouse of
Southbest Hardware works.

SUMMARY

On this part we decide to choose this two company because they have a great
warehousing process. This two are the Desmark Dupoint and Southbest warehouse. This two are
both located on Tanauan City, Batangas.

For the warehouse layout of Desmark Dupoint. Their warehouse is subdivided into 4 parts
which is based on categories. It includes the television and computer sets categories. The other one
is the motorcycles and motorcycle parts categories, the next one is the refrigerator and washing
machine are and the last is foe the appliances parts or what we called raw materials. On this way
they are easy to receive, store, pick and dispatch the materials. It also keeps the warehouse
organized. Since this company is newly open, they are not fully organized.

For their warehouse layout of Southbest Hardware, it was also subdivided into 4 categories.
The metals and wood categories which located near the dispatch area, the hallow blocks and
cement categories also near in the dispatch area, the sands, rocks and soil categories outside the
warehouse for easy pick up and the other construction equipment such hammer and nail near on
the other dispatch area. On this layout they are able to store and release material easily. They are
also organized on storing materials

LEARNING AND INSIGHT

As I learn this two company has same process using U-Flow but theres a little bit difference
because the Southbest Hardware is using both U-Flow and Through-line Process. Additional
difference is there are not offering the same product. For the Desmark they store their product
according to categories such as television and computer categories, heavy appliance categories,
motorcycle and motor parts and lastly the raw materials categories. They store it organize for easy
picking and dispatch. Same on the Southbest Hardwaare they also store materials base on
categories such as heavy metals, cements and hallow blocks, woods and sand, and other
construction materials. The process of dispatching is based on the material they are going to release
like heavy metals, for this case they are going to use the U-Flow process. All heavy materials use
the process of U-Flow but the small material such nails and hammers uses the Through line
Process. The Desmark Dupoint is using the U-flow process because they only one entrance and
exit. The receiving and the releasing process occur on the same place. They’re just going to
dispatch product once it is already purchased.

CONCLUSION

I therefore conclude that there are four main activities within the warehouse – receiving.
storage, picking and dispatching or releasing of products. And there are two types of warehouse
flow system: the U-flow warehouse and the through flow warehouse. Between the two stoe
Desmark and Southbest hardware the two store we’ve conducted an interview, Desmark Dupoint
are using U-flow warehouse while Southbest Hardware are using both U-flow and Through flow
warehouse system base on the product they are going to release. Desmark Dupoint receives and
dispatch or release product on the same door. Their products are appliances and motorcycles. After
receiving process, they store it inside the warehouse and picking process only done once if there
is a prospect buyer. Also, their warehouse layout is subdivided accordingly to keep their warehouse
well organized. Southbest Hardware receive materials on main entrance door, but the releasing or
dispatching is done on different area depending on the type of product for example, sands, rocks
and soil which is stored outside the warehouse, so the releasing to the customer is on outside also
and usually through delivery truck. But other items such as metals, woods and nails etc. are kept
inside the warehouse and they only pick it on warehouse if their stock displays are sold out. Also,
on their warehouse layout, items were properly categorized for easy pick up and releasing.
