I had an am using experience last y ear. After I had left a sm all v illage in the south of France, I

drov e on to the next tow n. On the way a young m an wav ed to m e. I stopped and he asked m e for a lift. After he had got into

the car, I said good m orning to him in French and he replied in the

Except a few w ords, I do not know any French at all. Nei ther of us spoke during the journey .
