The theme I chose was religion/tradition which plays a big roll in a society. Religion

helps govern the society and teaches what their beliefs are. It helps to understand good and bad

morals so there isn't totally chaos. Tradition helps define what makes each civilization unique

among each other. It defines culture because it explains how and what they believe. I think

religion and tradition are one of these most important because it is one of the first things to give

hope and create a culture. Religion is what people use to understand why and how were on the

earth. If a culture lacks a sense of faith/hope, it can lead to complete hell. No one would help one

another, life had no meaning and chaos would break out.

1. The first artifact I found was a Worshipper Statue in the Diyala Plains. The statue dates

back to 2900-2600 BCE. The statue was of a male and had fine detailed lines which mean

it was delicate. This would’ve been used in a worship center such as a mass.
2. Again in the Diyala plans was another statue. This time it is was of a man carrying a box in his

head. It dates back to 2900-2600 BCE. this would have been used as a sacrifice given to please a

god which show the devotion of the people to the religion.

3. I traveled to the Lower Zab river valley and found a Statuette of Lama. it dates back to

1307-1282 BCE. it was used as a protection for warriors which shows they trusted in a higher

power to help.

4. In the Upper Zab river valley i found a Votive bowl. It dates back to 2600-2350 BCE. the

bowl was used to carry items for religious ceremonies which shows that the people in the culture

would work together for something they believed in.

5. Again in the upper zab I found a Relief. It dates back to 358-338 BCE. it was a drawing of

servants serving wealthy people which were most likely religious leaders which shows the

culture working for the higher power.

6. Finally I found a vessel stand in the Upper Zab. It dates back to 2600-2350 BCE. the stand

would have been used to carry items in religious ceremonies which shows a group of people

coming together to worship.
