Mad Max: Fury Road Observations

The first person we meet in the movie is Max. As he is introduced, we learn that he has a
past that still haunts him, which seems to be his weakness. Throughout the movie, we see
glimpses of Max’s past and they hinder him during very important moments. Towards the end
when Furiosa was dying, Max was too scared to let her die, which most likely stems from his
past. Nux, a War Boy, was the one who captured Max for his blood, but later switches sides and
turns against Immortan Joe, who he worships. Nux kissed up to Immortan Joe because he wanted
to be on his good side and have a higher position, but ended up falling for one of Immortan Joe’s
wives, making him Nux turn against him. The War Boys were half dead, so there seemed to be a
battle between the living in the dead, which is why Max’s blood was wanted . They all followed
Immortan Joe’s orders, except Nux, who helped Furiosa escape with Immortan Joe’s wives. At
first, Furiosa seemed to only be helping the five wives flee, but was also fleeing herself. All of
the wives were pregnant, but The Splendid Angharad was the only one visibly pregnant.
Immortan Joe got them all pregnant to have more blood to survive off of. Max and Furiosa were
fighting with each other when they first met, but they both wanted the same thing. Their first
encounter was a fight, so they never communicated to each other what they were both running
from. Furiosa only has one arm, so that shows how strong and brave she is because she fought so
many people along their journey and they all were men.
