There is a great pain in the heart of Cromwell Castillo, 29 year ago his son Ernesto disappeared

without a trace, and it has long been presumed dead, his pain will only been quench when those
responsible for the death of his son confess were his remains are located. However, that day
seems to be far away.

The 21’s of October of 1990, Ernesto get out early of his home to Villa el Salvador where he will
interview some people about the “Fujishock” a series of controversial political and economic
measures to jumpstart the economy. “I’ll call you back to tell you when I’ll be at home” was the
last thing Ernesto told his father before disappearing. That same morning there was a
manifestation pro Sendero Luminoso and Ernesto was arrested and nobody never had heard
from him again. Castillo has always maintained that his son was no part of the terrorist
organization, and according to him “even if that was the case, I still had the right to now were
his body is”. The most likely theory juggled by the police, is that Ernesto must have been
abducted by the militaries and subsequently killed.

In 2006, the Supreme court of justice sentence to 16 years of prison to the coronel Juan Mejia,
which has maintained by the experts, might have been the responsible who ordered the
disappearance of Ernesto. However, he never confessed the murder. As claimed by some
witnesses the body of the late Ernesto Castillo was probably blow out using hand grenades. In
2013 the colonel was given penitentiaries benefits and regain his freedom.

Until this date no new leads have been given in the case of Ernesto Castillo and is very likely that
his body will never been found.
