For my second magazine, I will also create a front cover by following the codes and conventions of
fashion magazines. Fashion magazines have a masthead which is the biggest font on the cover at the
top of the page. My Masthead will be 'ESTILO' and I will follow the convention of placing it at the top
of the magazine cover, therefore my target audience will be able to clearly see it on the shelf. They
also include a positioning statement (my magazine positioning statement is 'find your style') on their
front cover. I will place mine below the masthead as a second title statement which will follow the
codes and conventions. A main image is extremely important as that is one aspect of the front cover
that will attract the target audience to my magazine. I am going to use a male in the second
magazine, and he will directly address the audience in a mid-shot with the appropriate Mise En
Scene. Coverlines are another code and convention, with sublines underneath, which are mostly
placed at the side of the main image, an example of a cover line I am using on my cover is ‘6 MONTH
6 PACK’ which I will place at the side of my image with a subline to follow the codes and
conventions. The front cover will also include a main cover line to draw in the audience. The main
cover line I have chosen is ‘FROM BORING TO BOSS’ and this can be placed over the image as long as
the face is still seen.

The contents page has different codes and conventions that need to be followed. Firstly the
contents page will have ‘CONTENTS’ as a title which is in the biggest font on that page. Often the
front page is prominent within the contents meaning that the contents and the front cover link
whether that means the image of the front cover is inside the magazine or the colour scheme,
stories and Mise En scene match what is displayed on the outside. For example; I will incorporate my
magazine cover into my contents by putting a little image in the top left corner of my front cover and
use the same colour scheme. Another convention of the contents page is that headings are used to
divide each section i.e. I will use the headings regulars and features to split up what will be in every
magazine and features to show what is only in this magazine. Page numbers with short headings will
fill the contents, an example of this would be: ‘25| JUMP INTO WINTER’ which is what I am using
within my magazine, the headings also need to include a sublines in a smaller font which will give
details about the article i.e. the heading will be font size 12 and the subline will be font size 10.
There needs to be a variety of pictures used in the contents, I am using a minimum of 5 and these
will include images of my model in autumnal clothing, formal clothing i.e. suits and hairstyles which
will all link to the short headings I have written. Magazine contents pages need to include a
consistent column structure, a simple colour scheme (mine will be black and red), page numbers, the
magazine title and the issue date.

My website will consist of a masthead and banner, a navigation bar, hyperlinks to different sections
for example I am going to use the hyperlinks; news, fashion, shop, entertain, more and other. The
website needs to have some text, so for this I am having a menu section where the reader chooses
which section they want to read and then when they choose it takes them to the secondary page (I
have chosen fashion) and this will contain images and stories. The website also needs to have more
images than text, simple Standard English, white or cream backgrounds, links to social media, links
to adverts, more stories and the text must link to the magazine.

Media representations

In my second magazine I am going to use a male to represent men/ teenagers of an AB demographic

(middle class). He will be featured on the front cover of the magazine, contents and my website; he
will also be dressed formally/ sophisticated to appeal to the target audience (AB class). In the
contents page and website I will also include some male models to also attract the male audience.
Media audiences

My target audience is teenagers (16-25) of an AB class demographic who are culturally sophisticated.
I will include both males and females in my magazine but the main focus will be on females. I will
relate my product to the target audience as my front cover will have a female teenager of an AB
class. The contents page will contain images that would represent a middle class demographic by
including branded clothing, make up products and different hairstyles/ hair products; this will also
appeal to females. On both my website and contents page I will include different short headings
which will include designer brands, make up, celebrities, lifestyle, health, social media and skincare
which will appeal to my target audience as it is relevant topics a teenager will enjoy to read and it
includes clothing and information AB class will enjoy.

In my first magazine I have included a regular heading (‘WOAH! WE'VE GOT A WEBSITE') were
readers will have a link they are able to go to the website. I have also included a cover line (' OMG!
WE'RE ONLINE') which is for the audience to find out about the website and social media accounts
for my magazine.
For my second magazine I have included the same regular heading, however I have used the cover
line ' FOLLOW US AROUND!' which will also allow the audience to read how to get to access the
website and other social media accounts.
To link the website to the magazine there will be an image of the most recent magazine issue in the
top left corner with the text 'SUBSCRIBE'. Readers can then click on the image and see previous
issues and subscribe so they can get that magazine on their device or posted to them each month;
they will be able to receive notifications when the issue is released and early viewing.
I will need to follow ASA guidelines to make sure my magazine is suitable for the audience. By doing this I need to make
sure that my magazine contains appropriate promotional marketing i.e. promoters must conduct their promotions
equitably, promptly and efficiently and be seen to deal fairly and honourably with participants and potential participants.
Promoters must avoid causing unnecessary disappointment, or promoters must ensure that their promotions are
conducted under proper supervision and make adequate resources available to administer them. Promoters, agencies and
intermediaries should not give consumers justifiable grounds for complaint.
Also I need to make sure that my magazine doesn’t invade privacy, for example Marketers must not unfairly portray or
refer to anyone in an adverse or offensive way unless that person has given the marketer written permission to allow it.
Marketers are urged to obtain written permission before. Prior permission might not be needed if the marketing
communication contains nothing that is inconsistent with the position or views of the featured person.
I cannot have my magazine having misleading advertisement which means Marketing communications must not mislead
the consumer by omitting material information. They must not mislead by hiding material information or presenting it in
an unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous or untimely manner.
Harm and offence must not be shown in my magazine in terms of Marketing communications must not contain anything
that is likely to cause serious or widespread offence. Particular care must be taken to avoid causing offence on the grounds
of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. Compliance will be judged on the context, medium, audience,
product and prevailing standards.
I must also ensure that political advertisements can influence voters in a local, regional, national or international election
or referendum as they are exempt from the code, but only if the main purpose is to influence voters
