We believe God wants us to have good health, as far as possible, (III JOHN 2)
"BELOVED, I WISH ABOVE ALL THINGS THAT THOU MAYEST PROSPER AND BE IN
We believe that God has commanded us to put a difference between the clean and unclean
meats that He created for us to eat. Who knows better as to what flesh meats we should eat-or
not eat-than the God who created them, and us. God has given this health message to all of
humanity that will do His will unto obedience. (I JOHN 2:17) "AND THE WORLD PASSETH
AWAY, AND THE LUST THEREOF: BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF GOD
ABIDETH FOR EVER." (LEVITICUS 11:46-47) (46) "THIS IS THE LAW OF THE
BEASTS, AND OF THE FOWL, AND OF EVERY LIVING CREATURE THAT MOVETH IN
THE WATERS, AND OF EVERY CREATURE THAT CREEPETH UPON THE EARTH:
(47) TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, AND
BETWEEN THE BEAST THAT MAY BE
EATEN AND THE BEAST THAT MAY NOT BE EATEN."
(II CORINTHIANS 6:17) "WHEREFORE COME OUT FROM
AMONG THEM, AND BE YE SEPARATE, SAITH THE
LORD, AND TOUCH NOT THE UNCLEAN THING; AND I
WILL RECEIVE YOU." (EZEKIEL 44:23) "AND THEY
SHALL TEACH MY PEOPLE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
THE HOLY AND PROFANE, AND CAUSE THEM TO
DISCERN BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN."
(EZEKIEL 22:26) "HER PRIESTS HAVE VIOLATED MY
LAW, AND HAVE PROFANED MINE HOLY THINGS:
THEY HAVE PUT NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY
AND PROFANE, NEITHER HAVE THEY SHEWED
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE
CLEAN, AND HAVE HID THEIR EYES FROM MY
SABBATHS, AND I AM PROFANED AMONG THEM."
(LEVITICUS 10:10) "AND THAT YE MAY PUT A
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOLY AND UNHOLY, AND
BETWEEN UNCLEAN AND CLEAN;”
We believe that God’s faithful church is a holy and peculiar
people. What makes us peculiar is our obedience to God,
(DEUTERONOMY 14:2) “FOR THOU ART AN HOLY
PEOPLE UNTO THE LORD THY GOD, AND THE LORD
HATH CHOSEN THEE TO BE A PECULIAR PEOPLE UNTO
HIMSELF, ABOVE ALL THE NATIONS THAT ARE UPON
THE EARTH.” (I Peter 2:9; Deut. 26:18; Titus 2:14).
The following are the clean beasts that we may eat thereof
with thanksgiving: (LEVITICUS 11:2-3) (2) “SPEAK UNTO
THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, SAYING, THESE ARE THE
BEASTS WHICH YE SHALL EAT AMONG ALL THE
BEASTS THAT ARE ON THE EARTH. (3) WHATSOEVER
PARTETH THE HOOF, AND IS CLOVEN-FOOTED, AND
CHEWETH THE CUD, AMONG THE BEASTS, THAT
SHALL YE EAT.”
The following are the clean marine life that we may eat
thereof with thanksgiving: (LEVITICUS 11:9) “THESE SHALL
YE EAT OF ALL THAT ARE IN THE WATERS:
WHATSOEVER HATH FINS AND SCALES IN THE
WATERS, IN THE SEAS, AND IN THE RIVERS, THEM
SHALL YE EAT.”
The following are the clean fowls that we may eat thereof
with thanksgiving: Chicken, turkey, pheasants, dove, quail, and
grouse...
The following are the unclean meats that we may not eat
thereof: (LEVITICUS 11:4-7) (4) “NEVERTHELESS THESE
SHALL YE NOT EAT OF THEM THAT CHEW THE CUD,
OR OF THEM THAT DIVIDE THE HOOF; AS THE CAMEL,
BECAUSE HE CHEWETH THE CUD, BUT DIVIDETH NOT
THE HOOF; HE IS UNCLEAN UNTO YOU. (5) AND THE
CONEY, BECAUSE HE CHEWETH THE CUD, BUT
DIVIDETH NOT THE HOOF; HE IS UNCLEAN UNTO YOU.
(6) AND THE HARE, BECAUSE HE CHEWETH THE CUD,
BUT DIVIDETH NOT THE HOOF; HE IS UNCLEAN UNTO
YOU. (7) AND THE SWINE, THOUGH HE DIVIDE THE
HOOF, AND BE CLOVENFOOTED, YET HE CHEWETH
NOT THE CUD; HE IS UNCLEAN TO YOU.”
The following are the unclean marine life that we may not eat
thereof: (LEVITICUS 11: 10-12) (10) “AND ALL THAT
HAVE NOT FINS AND SCALES IN THE SEAS, AND IN
THE RIVERS, OF ALL THAT MOVE IN THE WATERS,
AND OF ANY LIVING THING WHICH IS IN THE WATERS,
THEY SHALL BE AN ABOMINATION UNTO YOU: (11)
THEY SHALL EVEN BE AN ABOMINATION UNTO YOU;
YE SHALL NOT EAT OF THEIR FLESH, BUT YE SHALL
HAVE THEIR CARCASES IN ABOMINATION. (12)
WHATSOEVER HATH NO FINS NOR SCALES IN THE
WATERS, THAT SHALL BE AN ABOMINATION UNTO
YOU.”
The following are the unclean fowls that we may not eat
thereof: (LEVITICUS 11:13-20 (13) “AND THESE ARE
THEY WHICH YE SHALL HAVE IN ABOMINATION
AMONG THE FOWLS; THEY SHALL NOT BE EATEN,
THEY ARE AN ABOMINATION: THE EAGLE, AND THE
OSSIFRAGE (Sea eagle, seagull, the albatross, or any fish-
eating eagle), AND THE OSPRAY, (14) AND THE
VULTURE, AND THE KITE AFTER HIS KIND (various
hawks); (15) EVERY RAVEN AFTER HIS KIND; (16) AND
THE OWL, AND THE NIGHT HAWK, AND THE CUCKOW
(seagull), AND THE HAWK AFTER HIS KIND, (17) AND
THE LITTLE OWL, AND THE COMORANT, AND THE
GREAT OWL, (18) AND THE SWAN, AND THE PELICAN,
AND THE GIER EAGLE (type of vulture), (19) AND THE
STORK, THE HERON AFTER HER KIND, AND THE
LAPWING (woodcock, a plover, related to the sandpiper
family), AND THE BAT. (20) ALL FOWLS THAT CREEP,
GOING UPON ALL FOUR, SHALL BE AN ABOMINATION
UNTO YOU.”
There are many who use the following texts to give them a
clear conscience to eat anything they want. However, this is not
true as we will see here. God says that He will not alter that
thing that has gone out from His lips, (Psalm 89:34; Malachi 3:6;
Heb. 13:8). If it was a sin centuries ago for God’s people and
church of Israel, it certainly is today. Sin never ceases to be
sin. The first texts are found in Acts 10:9-34. Peter was visiting
Simon, the tanner. While upon his roof, Peter was hungry and
went into a trance in which God showed him a sheet with all
manner of animals on it. Peter was told: “Rise, Peter, kill and
eat.” (ACTS 10:11-14,17,28) (11) “AND SAW HEAVEN
OPENED, AND A CERTAIN VESSEL DESCENDING UNTO
HIM, AS IT HAD BEEN A GREAT SHEET KNIT AT THE
FOUR CORNERS, AND LET DOWN TO THE EARTH: (12)
WHEREIN WERE ALL MANNER OF FOUR FOOTED
BEASTS OF THE EARTH, AND WILD BEASTS, AND
CREEPING THINGS, AND FOWLS OF THE AIR. (13) AND
THERE CAME A VOICE TO HIM, RISE, PETER; KILL, AND
EAT. (14) BUT PETER SAID, NOT SO, LORD; FOR I HAVE
NEVER EATEN ANYTHING THAT IS COMMON OR
UNCLEAN. (17) NOW WHILE PETER DOUBTED IN
HIMSELF WHAT THIS VISION WHICH HE HAD SEEN
SHOULD MEAN, BEHOLD THE MEN WHICH WERE SENT
FROM CORNELIUS HAD MADE INQUIRY FOR SIMON’S
HOUSE, AND STOOD BEFORE THE GATE, (28) AND HE
SAID UNTO THEM, YE KNOW HOW IT IS AN UNLAWFUL
THING FOR A MAN THAT IS A JEW TO KEEP COMPANY,
OR COME UNTO ONE OF ANOTHER NATION; BUT GOD
HATH SHEWED ME THAT I SHOULD NOT CALL ANY
MAN COMMON OR UNCLEAN.” That which was shown
positive here certainly had nothing to do with the approval by
God for Peter, or for anyone else, to eat whatsoever they desire.
Especially in view of the fact that Peter lived with Jesus for
three and one-half years and neither of them, nor any of His
followers, ate of the unclean meats; Peter made that very clear to
the Lord; he wasn't about to start now.
They say that these texts prove that we can eat anything we
want. Not true! First of all, these texts state: “Which God hath
created to be received.”
Now we have to ask the question: What did God create that
we could receive or eat? Did God give us command or counsel
on this? Most emphatically! We find the answer very plain and
clear to that in Leviticus 11:1-23 and Deuteronomy 14:2-20.
The scriptures also say: “For every creature of God is good;”
yes, but only that “which He created to be received” as meat,
because there are many more that God created not to be
received. The final text that proves there is a difference between
the clean and unclean is verse 5, where it states: “for it is
sanctified (set aside) by the Word of God (the Holy Bible)” and
prayer, as stated in Leviticus, chapter eleven and Deuteronomy,
chapter fourteen. We must not ask God to bless a food or meat
that He has commanded us not to eat.
We believe that gluttony or over-eating to the point of causing a health problem is against
the will and purpose of God for His people, (PROVERBS 23:21) “FOR THE DRUNKARD
AND THE GLUTTON SHALL COME TO POVERTY: AND DROWSINESS SHALL CLOTH
A MAN WITH RAGS.” This poverty that God speaks of here can be materialistic poverty
and/or spiritual poverty. God looks on the glutton and the drunkard alike as equal partners who
will both share the same final results at the time of the judgment, (Deut. 21:20-21).
We believe that all clothing and jewelry is to be worn as that which becometh Christian
men, women, and children. Large, gaudy jewelry and/or excessive jewelry is unacceptable
to God and is not to be worn in the church or outside of the church. The wearing of jewelry and
facial make-up must be worn with simplicity and in moderation. This is acceptable to God.
(EXODUS 33:5) “FOR THE LORD HAD SAID UNTO MOSES, SAY UNTO THE
CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, YE ARE A STIFFNECKED PEOPLE: I WILL COME UP INTO
THE MIDST OF THEE IN A MOMENT, AND CONSUME THEE: THEREFORE NOW PUT
OFF THY ORNAMENTS (jewelry) FROM THEE, THAT I MAY KNOW WHAT TO DO
UNTO THEE.” (I TIMOTHY 2:9-10) (9) “IN LIKE MANNER ALSO, THAT WOMEN
ADORN THEM-SELVES (jewelry and clothing) IN MODEST APPAREL, WITH
SHAMEFACEDNESS AND SOBRIETY; NOT WITH BRAIDED HAIR, OR GOLD, OR
PEARLS, OR COSTLY ARRAY; (10) BUT (WHICH BECOMETH WOMEN PROFESSING
GODLINESS) WITH GOOD WORKS.” (Exodus 33:15; Jer. 4:30; I Peter 3:1-4;
Isa.3:11,13,16-24; Hosea 2:12-13; Ezek. 23:39-40; The apostate woman or church decked with
jewelry: Rev. 17:4).
We believe that bodily exercise profits little and should not be done to the excess, (I
TIMOTHY 4:8) “FOR BODILY EXERCISE PROFITETH LITTLE: BUT GODLINESS IS
PROFITABLE UNTO ALL THINGS, HAVING PROMISE OF THE LIFE THAT NOW IS,
AND OF THAT WHICH IS TO COME.” The Lord is speaking here of exercise that is
performed to excess and has become obsessive.
We believe that we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ and will be answerable
for the things done unto our bodies, (II CORINTHAINS 5:10) “FOR WE MUST ALL APPEAR
BEFORE THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST; THAT EVERY ONE MAY RECEIVE THE
THINGS DONE IN HIS BODY, ACCORDING TO THAT HE HATH DONE,
WHETHER IT BE GOOD OR BAD.”
We believe that it is our reasonable service to present our bodies a holy living sacrifice unto
God, and that we are not to be conformed to this world, (ROMANS 12:1-2) (1) “I BESEECH
YOU THEREFORE, BRETHREN, BY THE MERCIES OF GOD, THAT YE PRESENT
YOUR BODIES A LIVING SACRIFICE, HOLY, ACCEPTABLE UNTO GOD, WHICH IS
YOUR REASONABLE SERVICE. (2) AND BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD:
BUT BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, THAT YE MAY
PROVE WHAT IS THAT GOOD, AND ACCEPTABLE, AND PERFECT, WILL OF GOD.”
We are convinced that alcoholic beverages, tobacco in all of its forms, illegal drugs, and
anything we do to harmful excess is certainly not in accordance with the perfect will of God for
us, and it is unacceptable and most assuredly a part of this world and its sinful vices.
