Language and Literacy Project Outline

Concept: The type of literacy that I will be focusing on is video game literacy. Gaming literacy

may be hard to grasp and accept for most people, but is has very much earned the literacy title.

Gaming teaches a variety of skills and competencies, including math, reading, and science. There

is an almost inconceivable amount of games available for play. The argument I will have in my

narrative focuses on the validity of gaming literacy, proving its benefits to those who are

skeptical.

Intro: I plan on opening with some background information about both video game literacy, and

my connection to it, ending with my thesis statement. I have been playing video games since I

was six years old, making them a pretty significant part of my childhood and life even, as I

continue to play. I have played games of all genres, and learned lots of valuable skills and

lessons from each of them.

1st Body: My first paragraph will focus on what gaming literacy is, going in depth providing

evidence that supports its effectiveness in teaching skills and competencies to those who engage.

Many video games provide scenarios that require problem solving skills, motor skills, and team

work, all of which are very useful and quite essential in the real world workforce.
2nd Body: My second paragraph will focus on my connection to gaming literacy, providing

specific examples of the games I have played, as well as skills that they have taught me and my

use of them in school, as well as the real world. A quick example would be Runescape, a

massively multiplier online role playing game (MMORPG), teaching me financial skills, and

Minecraft teaching me motor skills and problem solving.

Conclusion: I will summarize my argument, going over the key and most influential points of the

introduction, first body paragraph, and second body paragraph of my narrative. It is crucial in

convincing my audience of my argument by really hammering my key thoughts into their brain

with a strong final paragraph.
