To Whom It May Concern:

It is an honor to write a recommendation for Sarah Anderson, my intern and co-teacher. I served as Sarah’s mentor
teacher during the fall semester of 2018, while she participated in the Penn State Student Teaching Program. Miss
Anderson was an intern in my fifth grade classroom at Ferguson Township Elementary in the State College Area
School District. We worked closely together from August through December, planning and co- teaching many
lessons. In addition, Sarah independently planned and taught several significant units of study. She was a
consummately professional intern, colleague, and partner in the classroom.

Using grade level standards and both district and community resources, Miss Anderson planned and taught math
units on fraction and decimal concepts and operations. Her mini lessons were engaging, her reflection and record
keeping provoked individual student growth, and she used formative assessment strategies to modify instruction for
future lessons. Her engaging workshop methods were grounded in differentiation and promoted high engagement.
She posed challenging questions that required students to synthesize and evaluate their understanding in new
ways, collaborate and create. Sarah did an excellent job of facilitating discussions, and found ways to encourage
participation for all learners.

Miss Anderson learned to monitor the environment while teaching, adjust her lessons when necessary or
appropriate to meet the needs of the students, and take advantage of teachable moments. Her rapport with the
class was respectful and flexible, and she developed management strategies which complimented her ability to
coach and guide students. Always efficient and looking to maximize teaching time, her transitions were quick,
exemplifying her organizational skills.

In sum, it would be my pleasure to work side by side with Miss Anderson. She would be a terrific addition to any
school community. Wherever she decides to accept a teaching position, I know, with all confidence, that she will do
an outstanding job and become an asset to the school district fortunate enough to receive her application for
employment.

Respectfully submitted,

Jennifer Grube
