Directions:

1. Read the quote above and write a 1-2-page paper about how the importance of taking

risks has benefited the United States as a nation.

2. Discuss the benefit of taking risks and why failure can be just as successful (do we learn

from our mistakes?)

3. Draw from at least 3 connections we have learned in class of people, events that were

deemed ‘risky’ that had a positive impact on the United States. ex: civil rights movement

events (sit ins, bus boycott, MLK speech) women’s activists, abolitionist (anti- slavery)

leaders, revolutionary war heroes, colonial explorers etc.

4. Provide possible consequences that could have occurred during the risks taken.
