Lesson Plan 4 Alba Figueroa Raritan Valley Community College Associate Professor Kimberly Schimer, M. Ed. April 8, 2018 LESSON PLAN 1 L Subject, Grade Level, Topic of Lesson ‘Mathematics, Kindergarten, Adding and subtracting Tl. Curriculum Standard K.OA.A.1. Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings] , sounds (e.g,, claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations. mm. Learning Objectives Assessments Students will be able to add and subtract numbers up to 10 using all type of materials. as needed and understand the concept of adding and subtracting. The teacher will be able to assess students, through presentation as the students bring up what they have used to come up with all types of equations adding and subgegcting up to 10. Answering all the question yill be using to assess them as best they can, IV. Materials: In order for us to go through with this lesson, there are some materials that are required. Materials for the students consist of Students: © Color pencils Markers Paper Counters Counting blocks Puzzles pieces Lego pieces Scissors glue Teachers: © Counters © Scissors © Paper © Pencil Oe ee ey i" LESSON PLAN 1 2 Vv. VIL @ Marker © Whiteboard © technology Pretesson assignments, knowledge and/or skills: Students should know numbers up to 10. The students should be able to count with their fingers and know how many fingers they are demonstrating while counting each one. Although many may not know, some should be able to know the concept of adding and subtracting and what exactly they are doing with those numbers. Lesson Beginning/Hook: Who in the class likes pizza and likes to share? How many slices of pizza can you eat? Do you leave enough for the rest of the family? Students will be able to answer these questions for me to be able to have a visual in their head to indicate what we will be talking about and working on for that topic. Depending on how many slices each of them eat or if their parents cut their slice into little bit slices than they will be able to get up and discuss among them and separate in groups according to the way their parents cut their slice or on how many slices they would love to have. Instructional Plan: 1. According to the different learning styles there will be different centers set up for them to be able to demonstrate their knowledge. Some students are kinetic learners, and some visuals learners. 2. What does sharing mean in adding and subtracting terms? What number are you not allowed use? (10,8,9). What kind of foods, fruits or vegetables can be used to subtract or add? (oranges, pizza, tangerines, avocado etc.) 3. In the first 2 minutes after letting them get in groups i will then allow them to pick what want to use in order to come up with all the equations possible in subtracting up to 10 and adding. 4, Depending on what each group has decided to do I will be walking around to look at the different ideas they each have. Postivily compliment them on their hard work encourage them to think as hard as they can. 5. After i have given them at least 10 minutes to work on what they are creating, I will walk around and ask them what different things can they use to count and add or subtract. Ask them questions for them to be able to explain to me what they have creating using their numbers. 6. After 5 minutes of walking around encouraging and observing work I will then have them get in groups of 5 and explain to each other what they have come up
