E-mail
From: Nicky To: My Best friend Subject: My hobby

Hi best friend!

I am writing this e-mail because I wanted to share with you some personal information
about my hobby. As a child, I remember myself back in the garden watching my mother
taking care after the plants and the flowers. She was very keen on the roses!

As I was growing up, I developed a special bond with all kinds of flowers. I remember at
the age of thirteen, all my friends used to go out for a movie or for an ice-cream but me,
no! I would sneak into a florist’s shop and sit in a corner for hours. The reason? The
colours, the smell, the variety of the different kind of flowers were all around the place. I
just admired their beauty!

At the age of eighteen, I decided I wanted to open my own florist shop. So, I did! I never
regretted it. I am and I will always be in love with my flowers!

Could you please write back and tell me a few things about your life? What was your
favourite hobby? What did you want to become? Did you fulfil your dream or did you
change your mind?

Take care,

Nicky

A face on money

The faces of kings and queens are everywhere – on TV, in newspapers and even on
money. For example, Queen Elizabeth II’s face is on money all over the world. There
are coins and notes with her face in over thirty countries.

In 1936, Princess Elizabeth was ten years old and her parents were king and queen.
Her face was on this Canadian twenty-dollar note.

In 1953, she was the queen and there were nine countries with her face on their notes.

Surprisingly, there weren’t any notes in the UK with her face before this one in 1960.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very good picture of her!

In 1977, after twenty-five years as queen, there were new pound notes with this picture
of the middle-aged queen in eight different countries.

In 1992, the Queen’s face was on notes in Fiji, Guernsey, Bermuda and the Bahamas.
She was formal again, but was that a smile on her face?

In the past, there weren’t any happy faces of the queen, but finally, in her seventies,

she was happy on this Scottish five-pound note in 2002!
