Argumentative Final

The argumentative assignment I chose for the argumentative artifact was an essay done

during my senior year in English class. On this assignment I was asked to write an essay based

on a book called, Into the Wild. We had to argue whether the main character Christopher

McCandless was inspiring and courageous or idiotic and reckless. This assignment was an

argumentative piece because I had to pick a side and support it with evidence explaining why I

believed he was inspiring and courageous.

The SLO I met in this assignment was being a critical thinker. I was a critical thinker

because I had to choose a side to argue in the essay. I also had to come up with a thesis to

demonstrate my argument and I had to support my argument with evidence from the book and I

did this by quoting phrases from the book.

This assignment helped me become more of a critical thinker by challenging myself to

find evidence and be able to explain it thoroughly. I still need to improve on learning to speak up

when I need help with my assignments. I believe that in the future I need to be more involved in

seeking help because in college the tutoring and teacher consulting system will be very different

from high school. This skill can be used in the future because I need to learn how to make an

argument but most important be able to support it with good evidence to get my point across.
