Individual Lesson Plan Reflection

Type Effects in Photoshop

I had a really great time with this lesson. I’ve learned so much about not only

incorporating text, but how to add effects to the text. One of my PDP goals was to understand

Illustrator which I had a really hard time with. After talking with a few classmates, I realized I

wasn’t the only one struggling with Illustrator. However, I still wanted to be able to make

graphic images and text “creations” to add to my photos. Photoshop has a friendlier user

interface and seems to be used more by those without designer backgrounds. I fully intend to use

and teach these methods in the future. I will make posters that more accurately capture my

message through aesthetic implications.

The biggest problem I had was working with my tablet. I don’t have graphics card or

memory that can support all of the functions of photoshop. There were several times where I

would follow a tutorial and everything would be on track until I went to render my type. At that

point, Photoshop on my tablet wouldn’t even give me the option. Many of the rendering options

are not available, nor any 3D functions. This worries me because technology driven schools

often give their students tablets. If half of my lesson are unable to be completed, I will have to

eliminate several lessons, or teach one-on-one so that the student can hopefully use a desktop

computer that has the correct accommodations.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with this lesson and definitely plan to use what I’ve learned in

the future. I hope to teach at a school that has technology that can support programs like

Photoshop so I can show students how versatile the program truly is.
