English 2010

What I think, Why I think

This semester in English I chose to write about a local issue that could be
broadened to a national issue which I feel that made it more validated to affect
each person that chose to read any of my work. I think that bullying was an easier
subject to explain in detail because it affects so many people in the world and
people have an easier understanding of what it is. The reason being is I feel that
sometimes I read about issues that I don’t have any understanding of, and I don’t
really get educated while reading about them therefore I’m less intrigued into
following up on it at all. That’s why I chose bullying as it doesn’t take an
understanding of a new concept.
I felt that throughout the semester the best way to get people interested in the
topic I chose was to relate to them as best as I could. Keeping them interested is a
good way to keep the flow going and not rethinking or overthinking my topic. I
was originally going to do my topic about Gym life but in a setting of 2010 English
I would’ve maybe caught the eye of one or two people but drained everyone else
to the ground which is why I chose to do something a little bit more relatable. I
feel my perspective never really changed over the course of the semester I just
felt that I was learning more and more about how bullying is literally the same
concept in all different scenarios.
It is actually quite amazing to think that with time passing by how bullying is
different because of the era but the same as it is still going after someone based
on who they are. With the magazine project I felt that the story about Laura really
put a big impact on my website and I think it was my best piece I did through out
the semester https://stopisolationism.weebly.com/isolationism.html I think it really
connected home with some people that’s why it was such a popular story on the
internet that I found.
I think that writing can show a different way for someone to express themselves.
Sometimes people that may not be socially expressive can write and explain
themselves in ways people would never even think of. I think the power of
communication is taken for granted and people don’t quite understand how
important it really is. I even think that people that can read and write and express
emotions still struggle with communicating with other people and can have very
negative impacts in the relationships they have with family and friends in life. I
think that learning to be communitive is a key part in becoming successful in life.
An example I had to learn on my own playing hockey was that it didn’t matter
how good a team was, if they didn’t communicate at the top of their lungs during
a game they were doomed before it even started.
I think even with bullying sometimes it happens mainly because the victim cant
voice for themselves. They just simply don’t know how and they curl up in their
shells. This is another reason why I feel it is so important as it is a skill. I chose to
write about the ranking type system humans have in sports with each other and I
found that those that talked a lot would sometimes be given the Alpha position
just because they weren’t afraid of what they said to anyone. Those that didn’t
speak much were generally potential victims based on their level of skill they
brought to the team.
