Civil Peace

In the story Civil Peace by Chinua Achebe, the story is about a civil war that happened
already in Nigeria and a man named Jonathan. Civil Peace was about a man named jonathan
who “was” in a war in Nigeria, and no matter what happens to him, he always hopes for a
positive outlook in life. Jonathan is a really lucky guy for surviving the war and still having most
of his family.
In the story Jonathan is always sure of what he wants to do and always makes a decision
that he will not regret. According to the story it says ​“And here Jonathan’s little zinc house of no
regrets built with mud blocks quite intact!”​ This quote is direct and what it means is that
Jonathan got a house and he doesn’t regret having the house. This quote shows that Jonathan
thinks about what he wants to do and makes sure that he will not regret making that decision.
Jonathan is also very smart and he knows where to do things and plans things out. For
example Jonathan had his bike hidden already.In the story it says “Hard as its loss would have
been to him he would still have to let it go without a thought had he not had some doubts
about the genuineness of the officer.” This is saying that Jonathan already had doubts of the
officer and Jonathan knew what the officer came for and this is indirect. This illustrates that
when the officer came, Jonathan already knew what he came for and he already had his bicycle
hidden.
Jonathan considers himself to be blessed. According to the text, it says that Jonathan
still has his family. As stated in the story, It says ​“He had come out of the war with five
inestimable blessings--his head, his wife Maria’s head and the heads of three out of their four
children. As a bonus he also had his old bicycle--”.​ This quote is direct and it is explaining that
Jonathan still has his family after what he went through. This quote shows that Jonathan is
blessed because he was able to have most of his family after a war and he is very lucky to have
them too.
Jonathan is a man who is very smart, blessed, and lucky. Jonathan was very smart for
hiding his treasured item which was a bicycle. He is also very blessed and lucky for having most
of his family after a war he went through. Jonathan is a very lucky guy for surviving the war and
having his family. Jonathan truly is very lucky after all the events that happened to him.
