To the Parents of Miss Dunigan’s Preschool Classroom,

We just wanted to thank you for allowing us to spend time with your children and in your

classroom. This entire experience has been so great, as we have had the opportunity to observe

the classroom structure, the developmental progress of the students, and construct our own

science lessons to implement with the students! We have participated in read-aloud activities,

played during circle time, and monitored behavior during the whole group instruction.

For our lessons, we chose the topic of weather! We began with a hook lesson on the types

of clothes to wear in different weather conditions. We brought in different items, such as boots,

coats, sunglasses, hats, gloves, etc. to show the different articles of clothing, then read a book

called The Snowy Day, by Ezra Keats. We followed up the activity with a short art assessment,

having the students draw a weather scene and include at least one article of clothing that we

showed. From here we determined that storms and types of weather was a more appropriate

lesson plan. We chose rainstorms and tornados! In both lessons we used experimentation as our

main theme. The tornado station involved putting water into 2-liter bottles and observing the

motion in the bottles. The rain station involved using cotton balls and water to show how rain

saturates the clouds and drops from the sky during rainstorms!

Overall, we want to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to grow as pre-service

teachers and work with your children as they continue to grow and learn! Please let us know if

you would like to see the results of our observations in your classroom!

Sincerely,

Sam Mack and Camila Lopez-Gomez
