I am currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Dental School of Universitas Gadjah Mada,

one of the best university in Indonesia. Albeit being the best one, my school's curriculum is not as
advanced as other Dental Schools in other countries. Undergraduate students are being taught
limited to basic dental practices only. This unfortunate condition makes me want to seek more
knowledge in Dentistry from the outside world, by participating in exchange program abroad, which
I did. I was lucky to get the scholarship to join the program held by Niigata University Graduate
School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Japan back in January 2019. Because, without any
scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to join the program, due to my family’s poor economic
condition. My father is unemployed, and my mom is just a part-time English teacher. But,
discovering Coursera and the scholarship it offered made me realize that this is such a convenience
way to expand my horizon; rather than joining exchang program that required a lot of money, I
could just sit in front of my computer and receive as much knowledge as I get abroad. I’m really
looking forward for my scholarship to be accepted, so that I could still learn more about Dentistry
while not being a burden to my family.

For my future career plan, I really want to be a dentist specialized in Conservative Dentistry, which
means keeping and maintaining the existed teeth in all most possible ways. Implant Dentistry is one
of the most interesting subject in Dentistry that I'd really like to learn, combining aesthetic and
medical aspects in one go. I think it would be very useful for my future career. Implant Dentistry is
not a very common subject to be taught to undergraduate student, so it would be an advantage for
me if I had the chance to study this subject now. I believe that I would get so much knowledge from
this Implant Dentistry course, which could improve my competence as a future dentist. Furthermore,
I'm really looking forward to implement everything I learn from the course to the treatments that I
would do in my future patients. I would also make use of the knowledge I gained as a tool to
improve the curriculum of Dental Schools in Indonesia.

As much as I wanted to enroll in this course, I couldn't possibly put extra money, because all of them
must go for the basic needs for the family.
