EIFFEL TOWER

The Eiffel Tower (French: Tour Eiffel) is an iron tower built on the Champ de Mars on
the banks of the River Seine in Paris. The tower has become a global icon of France and
one of the world famous structures.History of the Eiffel Tower
This structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance to the Exposition
Universelle, a World Fair celebrating a century of French Revolution. Eiffel was
actually planning to build a tower in Baecelona, for the Universal Exhibition of 1888,
but the responsible parties at the Town Hall of Barcelona found it strange and
expensive, and did not fit the city. After the rejection of the Barcelona Plan, Eiffel sent
his draft to the responsible person for the Universal Exposition in Paris, where he built
the tower a year later, in 1889. The tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1889, and
opened on May 6. Three hundred workers combined with 18,083 parts of ferrous iron (a
pure form of structural iron), using two and a half million spikes, in structural form by
Maurice Koechelin. The risk of accidents is enormous, for the unusual modern
skyscraper the tower is open without a middle tier except two platforms. But because
the Eiffel took a cautious stance, including the use of moving pallets, auxiliary rails and
screens, and in this case only one died.

The Tragic Story Behind Romanticism of the Eiffel Tower
PARIS - The Eiffel Tower not only keeps a romantic story in its days of decorating the
City of Paris. The French capital's icon is also a tragic story.
The Paris Security Unit a few days ago guarded the Eiffel Tower tight after a tourist
climbed to the top of the tower and then jumped to death. The victim was 25 years old
and allegedly committed suicide.
Once traced further, it turns out the victim is a tourist from Israel, who was seen in the
Eiffel Tower area since Sunday night. Police evacuated and closed the Eiffel Tower
after seeing it climb onto the 1,603-foot tower at 11:30 pm local time.
The man ignored the police warning and continued climbing to the top of the tower. He
remained there until Monday morning, where police and firefighters coaxed him down.
Finally, the man jumped from the top of the Eiffel Tower, fell on the second floor of the
tower, then died instantly.
Eiffel Tower Management admits this is not the first time the Eiffel Tower made the
location of suicide. They say it has tightened security and added a safety net to prevent
this from happening. Similarly, as reported by Dailymail, Wednesday (27/06/2012).

According to records, there are currently 341 suicide cases in the Eiffel Tower. The first
case of death occurred in 1911, when a tailor, Frantz Reichelt, died while trying a cloak
that he believed could make him fly.

This tower got various criticism from society when in wake, calling it disturbing eye.
The daily newspaper is filled with letters of criticism from the art community in Paris.

Eiffel has a tower standing permit for 20 years, which means to be dismantled in 1909,
when ownership was handed over to the City of Paris. The city had planned to tear it
down (part of the original contest rules to design a tower that was easy to tear down) but
after this tower proved to be profitable in terms of communication, the tower was left
standing after the permit expired. For example, the Military uses it to arrange Parisian
taxis at the forefront during the First Marne Battle, and becomes a monomen of battle
.
