Educational Philosophy

I believe that teaching is a privilege, one that should be taken humbly and seriously. It
encompasses so many different aspects and disciplines, making it a profession that is truly one of
a kind. By encouraging kindness and honesty, my classroom is a safe and open environment. My
students are able to communicate freely with curiosity and creativity while I do the same with
them, all while abiding by the rules and ethical requirements for educators. Learning should be
fun and I think that children remember and learn best when they enjoy what they are doing.

I believe that it is most important for students to learn core academics and social skills.
Students need to learn to collaborate, communicate, and function well with others at school. In
my experience, group projects and presentations have worked well to cultivate these skills.
Students also need to learn to respect their teachers and peers. This is very important, especially
at this time in history as classrooms are becoming more diverse culturally and economically.
Every student should be given the same privileges and opportunities and treated with respect as
each is a growing and maturing individual. Students also learn the value of honesty and hard
work in my classroom and are taught in a variety of ways depending on their readiness levels and
the unique way that they learn.

I believe that my classroom should be an exciting, fun, and safe place. I want to be a role
model for my students and have them learn from me. I believe that I should have high, but
realistic expectations for my students, and should help them achieve their learning goals.
Kindness, patience, dedication, and fun are absolutely essential to teaching and I love harnessing
all of these qualities in my classroom.
